hi!
i have now an asus p4b533 and soon i hope to get an asus p4c800, changing also the CPU.

my question: if i change mobo+cpu+ram, it is better to have a fresh winXP reinstallation or should winXP upgrade itself to the new PC configuration? (i know i probably have to re-authorise it).
it is wise to reinstall or can i save 1 day of work by keeping the old pc??

Everytime you change something in the hardware config, it's better to reinstall Windows, LOL. So, if it works, NEVER CHANGE !!!

Seriously, CPU or RAM change is not a problem except if you changed your chipset. For example on AMD mobos, changing nforce3 to nforce4 chipset is going to show you a very beautiful blue screen at the boot, and the only issue is to reinstall XP. I think it's the same thing on Intel mobos.

I´m pretty shure, you will run into a bluescreeen with the existing installation

Please Bosone, do not loose your time trying to keep an old installation.

By trying not to trouble yourself installing everything again, you are going to trouble yourself much, and finally anyway, will have to install everything.

If you change your MOBO, the move is too important to leave it just unattended, you must install XP again.

I will try to give you some points that will encourage you to go for a clean install:

*Your PC will be faster than before.
*You will be able to get read of old problems
*You will remove trials and other software you don’t longer want installed
*With your today knowledge, you’ll do a better configuration
*You can use the latest full version of XP instate of upgrading all the time
*You will not have DRIVER RELATED PROBLEMS
*Your registry will not get crazy
*It gives you the opportunity to organize yourself better
*Finally, no expenses in aspirins for your headaches!
