I seem to recall that experience in programming with wxWidgets/wxWindows was one of the needed skills in the development of Linux/OSX based drivers and SFP OS porting.
Well lucky us, Bruce Perens' open-source series of books has just released his book on wxWidgets as an open-source PDF and is therefore freely available.

Don't have time to dig in myself at present, but I thought that one of our many passionate geeks may be willing to dive right in.
