I'm about to buy a new pc and since I cannot find any Northwood processor anymore I thought it might be worthy to go for a dual core Pentium with 945P chipset... am I wrong?
What about a 945/dual core system?

What do you think about this motherboard?

Main reason for it is that it is one of the few with still 4 PCI, can anyone recommend intel motherboards other than d865perl (I know d865perl was a good one ) ?

On the cwa site I cannot read the faq section and didn't find any hardware recommendation...
Last time I visited the site it was some years ago and I read about very old setups (asus cusl..)

Any suggestion is greatly appreciated

If you do a search you will find that these mainboards were listed by other users. the 925XE was posted by Andre of creamware.

yes, I did search and read about those mobos, I was asking because I took seriously the idea of the dual core cpu (only 945/955 chipsets do support it), probably dual core may not work with scope as good as my expectations, so simply I don't know if it makes sense.

if it works it looks very interesting (imo)

well, that's the reason why I ask, I cannot predict how things will turn at these times...
2 years passed since 865/875 times.. intel processors got only worse, and nothing in performance has really changed on the intel side till now, but many interesting things have come and computers are going to change in various manners. On the chart I suppose dual cores should help with audio, I actually don't know, but I think one core for sfp, the other for the sequencer could be a good thing... at least, I hope

i don't think a 3.2ghz single or dual core is really gonna be that different in actual work done when it really comes down to it, since the software isn't optimized for dual core at all, and won't be for a couple of years.

probably, when the software is ready, the REAL new processors will come out and you'll want to upgrade then anyway. i'd say save the money. for the difference in price, you could get a new mic pre or start another computer....

the software isn't yet optimized, but the system (XP or Linux whatever) handles multi processing, currently the gain shouldn't be in performance but in stability & reliability (if it works with scope)

true, intel roadmap says next year there will be more optimized processors with lower power consumption and thermal problems (Conroe architecture), but in the meanwhile:

DDR2 costs now less than DDR
Pentium D costs like P4
PCIe costs like agp
sata costs like pata

the only saving will be about 50€ on the motherboard

there's also a Palladium issue to consider: next year chipsets will integrate Tcpa/Lagrande technology: I'm a bit worried about so called "trusted" stuff

xp is pretty solid with a p4 here, but i'd like to hear some good news about the new mobos/processors, so if you're feeling lucky.....
