Hi,

Its summer and the weather here in belgium bwaa
So i am the ''proud'' owner of a P4T533 asus motherboard.
It's ramm is rimm.....
Ok i was wondering if somebody can tell me more about the beautifull world of rimm?
Is it dying?
Is the P4T533 the only asus motherboard with rimm because it seems so?
The P4t533 has 2 slots for rimm.
I used to have 2 times 256
Upgraded to 2 times 500
So here i am with 2 rimm modules that i dont use.
The idea is to use all for of them 1.5gb rimm
Would be great!
Or not?
Was it all a waste of money because rimm modules are not cheap....

it's great memory, but pretty expensive and thus, dead.

i have 2 motherboards using it and those computers work GREAT. you'll probably have to go to ebay to find it at reasonable prices, but all rambus is good pretty much. get it in matched pairs if possible. use it in pairs. also, make sure that you get the proper speed and type for that motherboard.

afaik, you can't use 4 modules where there are 2 slots so...

i use the intel d850mv. it has 4 memory slots and is very stable, but not good for overclocking. i reaslly haven't thought about upgrading for a while because with a 3.2ghz p4 and 2gb of very fast memory, the current stuff doesn't really run any faster.

I also have P4T533C with rambus. And it's ligthning fast for load samples etc... and pretty responsive.

But i have made the same mistake, i didn't max out the ram when i bougth the pc, now i can't find rambus easily at all, worst, i use 1066mhz rambus, the 'most' expensive rambus. doh...pff, sorry, just ranting

firrubi-
no, rambus is higher quality and VERY fast compared to ddr. it is just really expensive and ddr is cheap and works plenty well. if you have a computer with rambus, great. if you have one with ddr, great. the current software can only take advantage of a small percentage of the current pc's power. there is no advantage to buying a new computer now if one has a 3ghz or faster machine.

certainly the newest computers have the POTENTIAL to perform better, but then so do all of the machines built in the last year or so(heck for longer than that). the software will keep the level of performance about the same. the hardware is not the bottleneck at the moment, imo...the funny thing is ddr is only just now up to rambus speeds, but it obsoleted rambus years ago.

marcus, i have had really good luck with ebay for rimms.....

Hi,

Interesting thingsss
Is Asus like the same ass windows monopoly?
I mean that i have ''the feeling'' that there isn't much else than asus to go for and i hope i am wrong.
What is ''as good or better than'' ( euhm )
Asus for motherboards?

Garyb:

euhm is that so ?

i use the intel d850mv. it has 4 memory slots and is very stable, but not good for overclocking. i reaslly haven't thought about upgrading for a while because with a 3.2ghz p4 and 2gb of very fast memory, the current stuff doesn't really run any faster.

I'm not interested in overclocking so maybe thats the way to go.
Do you know if the rimm 4200 32bit 256Mb times 2 and rimm 4200 500mb will fitt in the intel d850mv?

The patents held by Rambus are very expensive to license...
so the industry choose the DDR way to go.

Who told you that Stardust?

for that much money, i'd just get another computer to run in parallel. how much extra work do you think that you'll do with such an exotic machine? well, if you can afford it, go for it.......

protone, here is the info from intel on that mobo. you may find one new on the net. look for an 850E version of the chipset. there are still some in stock some places...you may need to look at ebay. stardusts statement about expensive licensing is well documented and correct.

So yeah there goes there goes the money...
But the sun still shining and the weather is sweet here...
