Hi!

I am actually planning to build a DAW with 16-track recording via ADAT. Since the Pulsar I is pretty affordable (if found used) I am thinking about buying this one. Now my question is: What bitrate will I be able to record with? I was reading Ricardos thread (http://www.planetz.com/forums/viewtopic ... &forum=1&2) but this dosen't really answer my question. As far as I understand the bitrate is dependent on the converters I use. But is every bitrate compatible to the Pulsar? For instance if I use a 24/48-converter, will my recording also be 24 bit or does the pulsar only work with 20 or 16 bit? BTW wich card would you recommend for recording (Pulsar, Pulsar II, Scope Pro etc.)?

Thanx in advance for any help!

Matt

Input is 24 bit, so it depends on what software you use for recording and what routing modules you take for ASIO. You have choice for ASIO to reduce bus usage, like with 32 bit you'll need double bandwidth compared to 16 bit and have even more channels for input. It is a bit difficult in the beginning this routing thing and you have to get used to the freedom of choices you have. Reread the thread with this in mind: you configure the card for your different tasks. Like: as many buses as possible -> simple ASIO 16 bit. Critical tasks are the ones with as many as in ASIO 32 bit. Then it depends on the capabilities of your mobo and chipset. That's why you find so many information and discussion about mobos here. Together with the advice "get rid of everything that eats up your PCI bandwidth".
Try to get a Pulsar II card, they can handle latency better as the I series. Or a Luna, but then you have only 3 DSP and that's maybe not enough after 3 weeks of usage or 3 hours or ...
