Hi Cannon,
how many DSP you have, how many masterverbs can you load? Do you get PCI overflow? Do you have SATA HD?
Thx and make good music

just load masterverbs into empty project until you get some pci overflow or dsp overload message... i think,
do you have SATA hard disc?

Thx

i have try to reset but i had some trouble
in the project are present other things
16 stereo asio2 24 bit module 4 asio2
and others things like scope adat in out and luna zlink in outand midi devices etc
i'll try in empty project in the next days
i havent serialata for the moment i use normal ide standardpc and i don know if the mobo is well tweaked like pci latency settings etc
seem works well for my needs i must to put the powerpulsar like the first audiocard
and the pulsar2 and luna2 in cset.ini but i don know if this affect the pci workflow

ciao

I have more question do you think the 14 DSP scope(33cm) would fit on that motherboard? what about two? Did you try if your system works on 96kHz?
thank you for your answers

musicc is the magicc

p.s. I am going to build a new DAW based on athlon64, Nforce 3 Ultra seems to be a way to go, but i dont know which mobo to use,

I think he already mentioned he had a Powerpulsar (this is a Scope pro 14 chip card).

I've been looking into this stuff myself, and Nforce3 Ultra or even Nforce3 seems to be the way to go. I'm still a bit suspicious after a recent Nforce4 disaster (nf4 = bad bad bad chipset although incidentally I have no clue about Nforce4 ultra or Nforce Pro... Nvidia are NOT making this easy  ) but I think it's the only thing to be done. I want to build a CW box which I may never have to upgrade again..

According to the Nvidia site, there are 4 motherboards with NF3 ultra:

EPOX EP-9NDA3+

Gigabyte GA-K8NS Ultra 939 nForce3 Ultra

Gigabyte GA-K8NSNXP-939

MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum

Unfortunately, these all look like they have active coolers on the chipset  I'm still reading through the reviews (all mobo reviews seem to be 15 pages long these days).

I may still end up going for a socket 754 Nforce3 system, as I could possibly get a CPU free/cheap.

What's wrong with active coolers? Noise?

Well, depending on the board and the cooler, one could probably swap out the fan for a quieter one, were one so inclined.

I'm shopping for the MSI Neo2. Things are geting pretty quiet on the Athlon 64 front though... The stock Heatsink/Fan combo's are pretty damn silent (I'm told). The Samsung 160GB drives (with an N in the model #) are supposed to be near silent. Most cases have 100mm slots which can be filled with damn quiet fans...

Now it's the P4's which are noiser than a 747.

Lookin sweet from here.

Unless your worrying about the one less thing to worry about.

Seriously though, has anyone else had good experiences with the Neo2? I'm also looking at the Gigabyte GA-K8NS Ultra-939. I'm told the Gigabit ethernet port sits on the PCI bus, whereas the 10/100 port does not.

I suppose it doesn't matter much, as I won't really have this machine connected to the internet, except for a few specific cases, but many people stated they had bought the boards and would post results.

Anyone else wish to come forward with their experiences?

i can open all the old project when
with old system i had pcioverload
and add a bunch of devices reverb comp ampsim delay etc

i cant work at 96kh after one reverb
i have some error
but at 96khz i can load a bunch of vinco and optimaster and psyq without problems

the XTC could works well too i just try in these days except for the limitation well know(problem with save multifx etc.)
I would like to have a scope 5.0 for really
laugh with my system.

in september or october i'll buy a new cpu
a 4000 if the price go down.

Thanks for your response. I've been rockin a laptop system, so the thought of a plentiful PCI Bus really keeps me up at night. Having said that, I'm a little torn.

Things change pretty quick in the industry, and the Neo2 has gotten rave reviews, but I've been bitten by MSI stuff before.

Their design and components are usually solid, and their implementations are often cheap and flimsy.

Again things change quickly.

Anyone have the/a Gigabyte board with a 939 socket, or better yet, experience with both?

Well, I went ahead and ordered the rig. Here's the specs:

Codegen 4U Rackmountable case 19" deep
Gigabyte GA-K8NS Ultra-939 Motherboard
ASUS V9400-X/TD/64 (super-cheapie vid card)
SEASONIC S12-430 Powersupply (supposedly REALLY QUIET)
AMD 64 3000+ ATHLON 64 939P (Venice core)
1GB 128X64 PC3200 CORSAIR (its the CAS 3 value RAM. I wanted one more --I mean, I'd get 3 more if I could afford it, but this should be enough to get me started)
160GB SAMSUNG SP1614N 8MB Cache 7200RPM (when I get the other DIMM of RAM, I'm also going to get another 2 of these drives : 1 for OS and track backups, 1 for tracks, 1 for sample libraries VST and otherwise)
DVD+/-RW 16x NEC ND-3520A BK

Should be a real screamer. We'll see. I'm unbelivably excited, and nervous. I'm sure the mobo will be fine, but I dread getting it all set up, fine-tuned and perfect, only to load up an old track that gave me PCI Bus overflows and get crackles in its place.

Anyway, I'll post my results here as always.

Yes please do that - I'm looking forward to hear the result, since I've been looking at a simular setup the past few weeks!

Cheers and good luck!

Okay. I've got it up and running and have run some preliminary tests. On the Gigabyte board I was able to get 12 Masterverbs running without error. The 13th didn't result in a PCI error, but a 'card memory' error which it thought was due to the DSP being full. I imagine it was having issues spreading that Masterverb to the 2nd card.

Anyway, I'm going to start install the remains of my app. I'm really glad someone mentioned that post install, you can just copy your SFP directory back into the Program Files directory. What a lifesaver!

One thing to be careful of, for those who are looking at my spec sheet, the Codegen 4U case was perfect in every way but one. It was too short for my Scope Professional card!

Fortunately, my current setup allows me to put all my drives in the vertical stack that sits in front of the power supply, so I could remove the horizontal hard-drive tray. Perhaps once I upgrade one of my other machines, I'll get a deeper case for this audio PC and move the Codegen to the other machine.

Anyway, happy so far.

Please post any tests you would like me to make, if you are so inclined. I'll see what I can make time for this week.

Okay, spanning the Masterverbs across stereo insert slots in the 2448 I was able to hit 23 before getting the PCI overflow on the 24th.

Much better than the 6 I was able to get with my laptop rig.

Of course this one isn't quite as portable.

Incidentally, I did this with the Gigabit ethernet port disabled in the BIOS, as I had read that the 10/100 board built into the nForce3 chipset sat outside of the PCI, whereas Giga-byte had bolted the Marvell Gagabit ethernet on the PCI bus for some stupid reason.
