i was looking around for keeping myself updated about PC configuration for pulsar use.
now i have an asus p4b533, P4 2.4GHz, 1GB ram 233 and 3 CW cards (11 DSP total)
i'm not planning an hardware update, nevertheless i want to keep me informed about what's going on...
imagine one to have to build a new PC.
the correct choice would be a northwood processor because it's more cold, isnt' it!?
what about the ram and the fsb?
i imagine that now one would choose a mobo with fsb800 mhz, on which he will mount RAM rated for 400 Mhz, is it correct!?
the most critital "problem" for nowadays software (i.e. BIG samples library) is the ram... so i would be "forced" to buy 2GB of ram, which is REALLY expansive...
what is the now 775 socket i just discovered?? does someone have it and how do it behave with pulsar?
and finally, is serial-ata superior to a standar IDE HD at 7200 RPM while dealing with HDD streaming of samples!!?
thanks!
prescott, northwood,lg775... ?!
If you do most of stuff via CW cards, you realy do not need an upgrade, CPU etc speeds are only noticeable when using VST and so on.
For my upcoming upgrade i'm going to get Asus P5AD2-E Premium MB and 10000 rpm SATA HDs (two wd raptors to be joined in raid0 to get performance even better than SCSI)
