i'm gonna **FINALLLLLYYY** get the d865perl in a short time.... this one goes out to users of this mobo or anyone who knows...

my system consists only of geforce fx5200 and the creamware luna.

1. what pci slot do u people use your cw card? (if it's the ONLY pci card)

2. what bios options exists in the 865perl? does it let u assign pci -> irq?

3. what is your IRQ assingments under windows?

just wondering how do u people organize all of these things in your systems...

i am currently running the awful p4s800d(sis) board, cancelled alot of things, experienced alot of freezes, which are now gone, but unfortunately i cant get USB to work without getting freezes.. problems with irq manipulations...
so if anyone can answer some of my questions it'd be great..

the first or third slot should work well. this board has a limited bios but that shouldn't be a problem. TURN OFF USB2!

If you can avoid the 1st one because it's near the agp card, too much heat in that area...

What configuration when you have 3 cards?
(PulsarII, PulsarI, PulsarI SRB)

And an additional SCSI Adapter?

I have an older asus P3 mobo, but I'm ok with slots 2 (larger card), 4, 5.

slot 2 could have been slot 3, but I left some airflow...

scsi adapter is the worst thing you can put in a pci bus where dsp cards reside. It's a pci resources hog.

hey garyb
I've been looking at the d865PERL also but I need the USB and I wanted to get the configuration with the 1394 connector for downloading video. is turning off the USB an absolute with this board to prevent hangs. I've also looking at the Asus p4p800 SE which has the I865PE chipset as well. would this be just as good or better. And the Asus p4g800-v which has USB and an 1394 eithernet conector also and uses the I865G chipset. Does anybody know about this board or chipset. Asus calles it the 'CPU solution for system builders'

I have been researching audio edditing programs and have found out alot. and will post my finding in a much more concise followup in the 'off topics' section in my " Audio Editing and pulsar, post I posted 3 weeks ago.

Thanks Patrick from Austin

Also has anybody figured out the ASIO problems with the I865 se chipset. I will ned USB for dongles(I just ordered my Cubase SX3.0) and I think I am going with pinnacle Liquid Pro 6.0 which uses a USB breakout box and My DVD-CD rwr is external USB and so is my printer. Point being I must have USB and ASIO for everything. Are there any other boards or chipsets that will alow for this or do I need a PCI USB card?

usb 1.0, no problems. 2.0? depends...
i use usb for dongles, controllers, etc. and have no problem. i usually disable usb2.0 in the bios. i don't know if 2.0 will be o.k. or not, i suspect it will work fine. i always disable things that are not absolutely nessessary to save irqs and potential bus bandwidth.

i'd expect that motherboard(d865perl) to be a good choice. you will probably be better off in the long run building a machine fit to a task(video, audio, games, etc.), but i guess that's expensive. you should be able to accomplish what you need to, even if you need to put in a firewire card..... a cdrw/dvdrom is under $100(i got 2 nice toshibas for under $100) so....

I use an Asus P4C800-e (i875 chipset) along with USB dongles and a USB2 external DVD writer. I don't see any effect on DAW performance whether or not the USB 2 controller is active or disabled, whether the DVD drive is turned on or not, or even if the drive is on firewire or USB2.
I think the recommendation to disable USB2 relates to possible IRQ conflicts. As long as all your devices have their own IRQ's (especially the Scope cards), there should be no problem using USB2.
At least that's my experience.
