Thanks to J9K and Warp69 for the advice!!

What is Full Panning? Well, most panners work by fading down the right or the left channel as you pan back and forth. In some circumstances this might not be desirable as you lose sonic information this way.

Full Panning works by shifting the left and the right channel over to the opposite channel. For example, when you move the panning device over to the left, the right channel gets linearly shifted over to the left channel. This mixes both channels together. Because of this addition the resulting audio might be a little louder, but you lose no sonic information.

I know this is really basic and probably boring, but as this is my first device I'm still proud of it! (There's one bug: I don't know how to make it work in an insert slot!!)

Have fun!

Shayne

Oh, I think I have to have an "IsExternal=0" pad in the device, but I don't know how to copy that over from Empty Effect. Hmm....

You should make yourself a little logo or something to brand your devices

Do I understand it rigth, that at full left, the output will be a summed mono-signal in the left speaker?

Yes, when panned full left or right the two channels get summed to mono (left or right channels respectively). I don't expect you'd use this all the time, but apparently Logic comes with this sort of plugin so I thought Scope ought to have one too. You'll notice I implemented MIDI support!

Very usefull device. Just one problem: when I pan all the way to the left, close/save my project and reload it again, the pan is in neutral possition.

Best regards,

Marc

Hmm...is there something I have to do to get it to save the parameter with the project? Does anyone have any tips?

There is something about setting parameters to

remember the setting from last session
always start at default
be saved with the presets
be imune to presets
(I think all 4 was possible)

Right now I don't remember where I read it and how to do it though

That's funny...the little snapshot of the device in the Live Bar remembers the position, but the device itself doesn't. I don't see how I can set it to remember parameter settings, and unfortunately the documentation doesn't say anything about it.

I'm working on another device right now and it *is* saving parameters. I don't get it! I'm really sorry that this one is jinxed!!

I just found I *don't* have to get rid of any surface groups to speed up the performance...I discovered all I have to do is deselect "Draw Clipping" and "Select Clipping" in the GO Tree, and now everything is nice and speedy! One wishes they had pointed that out in the manual....

Now I'm having lots of fun!!

OK, I updated the device. It's now extension .dev, it saves the parameter with the project, and I made the text label have Left, Right, and Center. Everything should work now!

I really like the visual design
... and thinking about it, it's actually very clever:
what's the usual approach to quickly check one of the channels alone ?
you switch and mute - it plops and breaks (your concentration)...
here there's just a smooth transition - great entry, Shayne

cheers, Tom

Tom

See the discussion above. You can NOT use this device to check only one channel. When you pan fully to one side, you get the summed signal in that side.

if you pan full left, only the content of the left channel is hearable - but on both speakers... in my humble understanding according to the bracketed stuff...

anyway, if I missed the point maybe someone could pick up the idea of 'smooth transition' for A/B ing - the interupted sound during switching makes it really hard to keep the impression of the recent listening - at least for me

cheers, Tom

ps - reread the top - oops
you're right Immanuel, Shayne's nice graphic* took too much of my attention and I mis-interpreted the statement further down.

* I once almost bought a camera just for that red/green labeling on black
