Follow the link. The program is similar to "XP Lite" from litepc but this is FREEWARE!

it's a funny world...I've installed all those 'to remove' Windows programs on my mac, mac version then, and they work flawless

Very nice program indeed, I created some ultra light iso's with it... still it is a bit tricky I think, we're finding out some more about it and hope to write a guide about it, for DAW users. Also the unattended installation can screw things up, so be carefull and back up your system before trying that...
One can now make an XP ISO of 130-140MB having all it takes for an ultra-responsive installation. Just wonderfull. This is way beyond anything that could be done with XP-lite...
Have fun!

would it be wise to format all the system HDD and reinstall WinXP in "lite" version?

For it to be effective, you have to make a whole new installation, overinstalling won't do it properly I think. You could do a format if you only have one partition to install the OS on, I test-run it on a second partition (dual boot). In any case, make sure you know what you're doing or back up your data before installation - especially the unattended install can be quite tricky.

It's crazy one needs to install .NET Framework (a big monster) to make your installation small

This tool is amazing
(Haven't tried the automated install yet.. not enough time for trial and error right now

)

It indeed is a great tool, but we definitely need time for trial and error. I trimmed my XP to the bone, and as a result nothing worked like it used to or like it should. The question to ask is: what to keep in / leave out to get a working XP/Slim set.
When I have some spare time to play with this tool, I will post my findings here.
Cheers,
Rob

To make a slim Win Xp, I use to disable some Windows services. This is a bit tricky, so especially if you aren't a bit pratical with this things, I don't suggest you to make them.
Anyway, (also olny to see which services are used and what aren't) I often use 2 utility to manage my system:
msconfig
services.msc
You can found a very useful services guide here:
http://www.theeldergeek.com/services_guide.htm
And here you can read what's necessary and what not.
For examples I've got a small pc (only 800 MHz) compared with todays Pc, and i've noticed that disabling the graphic themes, the graphic effects and some background utility widows xp became less good looking, but faster.
Cheers

Obviously you have to be careful what you're taking out... I made a quite conservative slim install (still got the ISO size down to around 250MB) and it's working fine so far. I'll get back with any news if I get any issues, and also try to type up a list of things I successfully got rid of.

If i have time, i'll try to make a windows iso with built-in scope support and may be some progs...
- like linux distrs - set up a one and you already can work

Just an update..
The system is working great, network etc all cool. The thing boots fast, and feels quite slick. I remember the install being *very* fast - amazing how much crap and useless drivers it usually installs. I really recommend it.
Main thing is to be careful about the automated installs - unless you go and edit various config files manually, the thing will repartition and format the entire first disk!
