Hi all,
Well I have been having a small hitch with my new system, seems I am overloading my current battery back up and it beeps and causes me PC to shut down, I disconected it from the UPC and everything is fine, so I am thinking it may be due to it having a low wattag(sp?).
Its only a very small 5 minute APC model, I have in the computer a 430w PSU and ScopePro, UAD-1, TC Powercore, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, and drives etc, so I am thinking its drawing way to much juice for this litte guy to hang these days.
About what wat should I be looking to get? Would make sense to get as close to my PSU as possible but who knows what that woukld cost.
Any ideas on this question?
Cheers!
Suggestions on a good sized UPC?
What's the VA rating of the APC? The VA rating can be deceptive sometimes in that it does not actually truely represent the actual capability of the UPS. A marketing thing.
What is the condition of the battery? You may be experiencing brownouts and the battery is unable to keep up with demand?

By the way, I'm using a Liebert Powersure Proactive 700 VA for over 2 years now and it's running a p4 1.8GgHz 3 pulsar cards, 2 * 21" monitors without problems. It does the full line monitoring/conditioning, buck and boost, regulated output thing. Since I've had it I've realised just how bad mains voltages can vary, quickly drop out etc. Worthwhile investment for protecting those expensive pulsar cards!

Thanks for the reply,
the APC is probably suffering from the VA & Battery, its a very small one I had been using long before I got these DSP cards, also the unite is a few years old now, so maybe the battery has scene its ending days?
As you said brownouts is exactly what its like, the thing thats odd is I did not have this with my last system it just started yesterday with the new box, kept happening at the most inopurtune times aswell, I kept trying to install a 6gig library and it would happen during this like 3 times, I took the APC out and plugged directly into the wall and all was well.
I know its the APC since the unit would make a loud beep and my system would instantly reset. I think today ill be taking a trip to the office supply store and get a new PSU, ill look for something with a higher range.
For now the PC is conencted to a power strip incase of a surge but those do not work nearly aswell as a back up battery box for controling current and keeping things in line.
Cheers!

Hey all,
I ended up buying a new APC VA750, 450w box, was on sale for 80.00 bucks so I got it, all seems well, I have the computer, 2 monitors in it and also my mackie HR624's passibg thru the surge protected "non back up" ports for safe power distrobution.
Everything is working great now
Cheers and thanks for the responses!
