Hi everyone

I have just moved to a purely soft environment (getting married and wife to be didn't like the amount of room my studio took up...yes under the thumb!), and i have already noticed how quickly i run out of processing power. Both within Cubase and SFP.

I do have an old PC, Pentium III 750Mhz, 512Mb RAM, one 4.5gb and one 12gb hard drives and i have tweaked it to the limit (i think).

So what do people think, should i buy an extra pulsar card or a new PC, which will make the most difference?

Cheers

As much as I'd like to send CW more business, i'd say go for a new PC first as that one is getting a bit old. There are people using primarily SFP for their work, but with a PC that old I suspect you're going to want even more than 12 dsps.

A modern pc will offer tremendous power to mix and effect, and SFP offers native synths (& Fx) that are higher quality (generally speaking) than most software. What this means is that you can compose using sfp & bounce & mix using your sequencer.

There are other workflows but for someone used to hardware this is probably best, especially since during the mixing stage you'll still have access to SFP.

Oh, and when you DO get the pc upgraded and spend 2-3 months getting used to it, I suspect you'll come around to wanting another Pulsar2 *anyway*.
