Hi all,

Im still very new to sfp not sure if this is around but the autopan thats included does an okay job but what I would like is a BPM based panner that has tweakable options almost delay like, I would like to be able to set time parameters on on each channel, L/C/R etc so I can create smooth pannins that follow a bpm base or create flicker like effects depeing on note times..

Is there such a device? maybe if not with the tweakable options but atleast a BPM/Midi Sync based panner?

never saw such a device for SFP as is. just from the top of my head:
* sequencer automation (not the most elegant solution, i know...)
* i'm sure you can whip something up in modular using flexor modules.

Z filter's cool, although the panning function's linked in with filter cut-off.
Also De-Vice has something I think.....

Yes, released in 1999, the ROBOSTROBE will do all that and more.

fully BPM midi sync and manually adjustable BPM speed, visual moving light meter shows panned position, manual overide control for manual panning with the abilty to record moves into you sequencer, speed up to thousands of BPM for strange strobing/chorus/chopper type efx, six waveform shapes including random, extras like swing distance, swing left to right amount, strength, wander, includes full PDF manual, very low DSP...less than 30 EURO...

I read your post and said to myself: "It can't possibly be that hard." 3 gazillion hours later...

I suspect there are a few ways of doing this. If you just want something that does the job, definitely get De-Vice's Robostrobe. It looks very cool!

But if you're a hardcore tweaker, or if you have too much time on your hands (my case, I guess! ), then you can get a reasonable facsimile of a BPM-based autopan with the CW Modular 2 + Stereo MIDI tremolo effect (Effects -> Modulation -> MidiTremolo S).

In the image I've got a mono source, but the exact same setup would work for a stereo source "autobalance" effect.

The basic setup is:
The Modular 2 device hooks up the Mod2 MIDI input to a MIDI clock. MIDI controls the BPM setting. The output of the MIDI clock then goes to the Mod2 MIDI output, then on to the MidiTremolo S MClk in.

In the MidiTremolo S, Make sure you turn the "Invert Right Channel Modulation" to on, and the "Internal Clock" button to off.

Voila: a (slightly imperfect) BPM-based autopan.

The effect isn't 100% satisfactory to me. It needs a bit more tweaking. For example, adding a mono expander on each (left / right) output from the MidiTremolo S would give you a wider dynamic range -- the tremolo just doesn't go "quiet" enough during the hard pans.

Edit: Don't know about your other requests (L/C/R, fluttering effects, and so on) but if you enjoy tweakin' this could be a starting point...
