as some of you know,i have recently begun to mess around with sonar3 after running(and still running v5.5x)logic for 4 or 5 years.
just thought i'd mention for anyone who has had problems getting sonar to run in xtc mode, that it works fine. when you run sonar's vst wrapper/enabler,xtc mode must be enabled in sfp and sfp must be shut down. the process is slow but it works.
the one caveat is that if you still have a sequencer that uses asio natively like logic or cubase, you must disable the vst/dx wrappers or else your other sequencer will have problems starting when it tries to initialize sfp plugs as dx plugs, bad nasty business......
the quick way to disable xtc plugs in the sonar app is to run the enabler pointed at a file which has no vst plugs in it. this will quickly eliminate all wrapped devices from the dx(cakewalk) world. unfortunately, this also means a slow process to reenable them when you wanna use xtc mode in sonar again, but it all does work properly.(sounds good too!)

Hey Gary, thanks for the tip, I'll have to give this a try over the weekend. Have you tested exporting a song yet? I can get XTC synths and effects to load just fine in Sonar 3, and they sound great. But if I bounce or export audio, I get horrible distortion.

How do you get the I/Os to work in Sonar using XTC? I wasn't able to get that part of it working.

Just interested to know what the paino rolls are like in these other programs? Iam currently using sx 1 and i personnally think the paino roll could of been simpler to work in.Even the view of it could be designed better i thought..I consider Fruity Loops to have done well in the design of their paino, easy to work. Alot less button pressing. Is it possible to use Xtc synths in Fruity?

as to pno rolls, dunno i haven't used that stuff. as to i/o,i have modified my xtcproject.pro, but i have done nothing extraordinary. as i said i did have to have xtc mode enabled in sfp and sfp closed to get the plugin enabler to work,but.....as to exporting,it must be done in realtime.you could record the mix to an empty track or an outside device(like a dat or...)via sp/dif(my usual trick). sfp plugs are basically hardware even though they're in the computer.(you can't "export" an external synth like a dx7 either)

Gary,
What do your audio settings look like? (latency, sampling rate, etc.) I'm still getting distorted audio during export or bounce even when done in real time.
XTC is not a do or die for me, I like SFP just fine, but it would be pretty convenient for some stuff.

i'm at 7ms 44.1k,but i would increase the latency for a heavier mix.really,i could care less about export because i only use xtc for mixdown.(for the convienience of using one mixer, tho xtc mode also sounds better...)
(help! i'm saying it again..)sfp mode is much easier for tracking.

Gary please looks like you are the only one on line that can help me.
I had sonar and xtc working for months.
Then I had to start again for a major problem
I reloaded scope and went through the xtc set up. I put them in C:XTC
Then I reloaded sonar and the vst manager.
This one read very well the effects (which have a dev extensions but ignored the synths which have a dll extension.
When I originally did this months ago I didn't have any problem. What am I doing wrong now? help please.

i'm not sure what your problem is,but this i know,it would be better to install just the scope DRIVER. then install sonar. THEN install sfp.
i would put the xtc setup in a folder called vstplugins, just to make it easy if you get other vst plugins

.
good luck,i'd try it again.(three times a charm)

In SONAR 3.1 (and maybe SONAR 3 - can't remember), just untick the Fast Bounce box when you bounce down and you get no distortion on mixing.
