Hi,

I tried to install Magma on a Toshiba Sattelite 3000, but it seems the laptop hasn't got enough Memory resources available. Don't confuse with SDRAM, the memory the error is about is PCI buffer memory or something, see Device Manager.

I noticed that the AGP and PCI bus on that machine take too big of memory range. Tried disabling as much as possible (one boot only had AGP/IDE1/keyb/magma) but I couldn't free enough resources. PCI bus and AGP take loads of onboard Memory.

The only possibility I see is different AGp drivers for the Nvidia graphics chip, but I'm not very familiar with those. Any hints on how to free those resources are much appreciated, but I'm afraid the Magma will be a no-go on that machine... Even if the Magma installs fine, Creamware cards take one memory range each, so a significant amount of Memory Resources should be freed. I'm not hopefull, but if any of you sees a way of solving this issue, would be greatly appreciated

Have a look at http://tosh3k.sourceforge.net/
esp. the ACPI Link. Try Nvidia 42.30 drivers. Hope it helps.

Hi at0mic!

Here's what you have to do:

Basically, you need to increase the memory range allocation (and also most probably the number of I/O ports) of the Card Bus Socket which will be used by the Creamware Card.

By default, the allocation is something like 1MB and 1000 I/O ports. AFAIK, XP increases the allocation by default, so if you're not using that O/S, you could try it (might not give you enough however).

You will need to contact Magma, giving them the details of the memory range and I/O port requirements of the Creamware card (this can easily be found out by installing the card on a PC, asking somebody who has the same card installed already or simply ask Creamware) and then ask them for support, specifically what you have to do to widen the memory range and increase the I/O port number. This might require an updated / different driver from them, possibly registry settings tweaks etc...

FWIW, I do know exactly how to do this, as we solved exactly this problem for a company called XXXXXXXXXXXX, but there's a monster of an NDA slapped all over the work, so we'd be massively sued and I'd be summarily executed if I said a word (sorry!)

In summary, only Magma can help you.

HTH,

Royston

edit: Thought that I should add that changing your NVidia drivers etc. probably isn't going to help you much, as the default allocation will still be the same.
