Hi all,
Here is a pic of my standard project that I use to do all my work just using SFP and Cubase.
I'm sure I can get more out of the card and I am aware of the routing flexibility - but it honestly does my head in.

I was just wondering if anyone can take a look and offer a better set-up or some further advice. I've been using Pulsar this way for a long time - but I just know there is probably a better way.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My Rec setup:with 1632
*pulsar2 analog source>IL1&IR1
*Asio16 source........>IL2&ILR2
*Mix L/R..............>pulsar2 Analog Dest
*DL1/DR1..............>Asio Dest
*midi is form live2..soundblaster
And Mix setup is with 2448
*Asio source 1-10 ch L/R> IL/R 1-10
*Mix L/R>Pulsar2 Analog Dest
*Mix L/R>Asio Dest(bounce all track)
I found Pulsar2 very interesting and logical.

what to connect to what?it all depends on how you want to work.when you need to accomplish something, figure out how those connections would be made in the real world(your sequencer can be thought of as a recording deck),load the appropriate devices(the arrange window feild is the studio and the devices represent actual, solid devices),and connect them.there is no right or wrong.experiment, you can't break it....

Thanks for your reply firubbi and you are totally right when you say that the routing window is logical. Otherwise I wouldn't have been able to get it working at all
It's actually the flexibility that does my head in because I know there must be a better way of general use. I have been using a different setup to do my final mix than the one shown here - one that uses 16 channels of ASIO bussed through Cubase. And again I use a different routing setup when I record - mainly guitar or vocals.

I'm just interested in how other people are using Pulsar and Cubase together.

I think the sound of the Pulsar mixer is much better than VST . . but I find I'm using a LOT of audio tracks these days - both samples and bounced tracks - so this doesn't leave me with many options via ASIO to use the pulsar synths as well as using the bussing system. I sometimes run up to 32 tracks of audio - the standard SFP mixer only has 16 stereo channels -

So I guess what I'm looking for is an example of grouping mixers - say using a dynamic mixer for 16 audio tracks, the STM 1632 for pulsar synths and yet more audio....
OR . . .is this really the best option. Should I just stay with what I've been doing and switch to the final mix setup. I need something that is fexaible enough to do a final mix with pulsar synths running live instead of mixing down to audio all the time.

I'm on a G4 Mac, single proc 867MHz, with 896mb ram - so any Mac-heads out there that can share their ideas?

Thanks garyb, you possibly just confirmed that the way I'm doing things is fine.... set it up as I need it.
I was just throwing it out there in case there was something I was missing or if someone had a Uber project that I could experiment with.

that is 100% true, i don't know why but sfp sounds great... maybe pulsar is dedicated to pro audio and directX/vst is not.
You may not need 32 buses if you share common kind'a tracks to feed each bus. a lot of buses cause me some wired problem. yesterday i did a song something like this:-
*track 1-kick-----Bus1
*track 2-snare----bus2
*track 3-side-----bus2
*track 4-toms-----bus2
*track 5-ride-----bus3
*track 6-ohh/chh--bus3
*track 7-clean gtr rhy/slar(pan left)--bus4
*track 8-clean gtr rhy2(pan right)-----bus4
*track 9-nylon string gtr solo--bus5
*track 10-bass------------------bus6
*track 11-main vocal------------bus7
*track 12-background vocal 1----bus8
*track 13-background vocal 2----bus8
*track 14-harp(very small part)-bus9
*track 15L/R-piano(small part)--bus9
*track 16-strings(soft)--------bus10
*track 17-chime----------------bus11
*track 18L/R-bounce mix--------bus12
thanks.

I think you may load 2 (or more) stm1632 (or any other device, except I/Os) and you also have the 2448, haven't you?
If you don't know it yet, maybe you like to look, in devices, for "mixmaster" (by wavelenght).

have fun

I can share with you my default SFP and Cubase files.
Just have a look maybe you can find something good for you in it.
If you have questions...you know.
cheers

I'm all excited again . . . a little bit of effort in the routing window and anything is possible.
So................ thanks for everyone's help on here... I will be playing and experimenting for quite some time to come.
Sometimes you just need to change the way you work to get some inspiration and ideas.
