The only reason, why I switched from 98se was because of bad ASIO drivers. It is still the only reason. For my "music only" PC it was very good.

yeah, i've always had a problem with that number as well. "3", what is that? "4" now THAT'S a sweet number.
Hmmm...

A 3-legged stool will always be stable, but a 4-legged one not so. 3 rocks! 4's just too square and boring. 8 is OK, though.

I don't know why they avoided 4 in Cubase PC: There was Mac 3.5 then Mac 4, 4.1 etc but not Cubase 4 PC (3.7 then 5.0)

Royston, 8 leg stool??? Octopus

But 8=VIII in Rome digits; that consists of V (victory?) and the beloved III

I would be surprised, if we got any details before Frankfurt. I think it should be official at that event. That is the way I would do it anyway, but I am not into bussiness management so ...

I'm sure they have some tricks up their sleeve with 4.0 though

I think the pictures indicate, that the rounded corners on our devices may be a bit less round. Could be scaling, that fools my eyes.

My personal prediction is that in a few years, less and less people will be using Windows at all, of any flavor. Especially as their corporate licenses get more draconian and complex, and as they kill off support for the products that people have finally got stable and secure, people will start jumping ship.

Once corporations change their backend and workstation softwares (and the deluge has begun), employees required skills will change, and that mode of computer usage will invariably make its way back to the homestead.

Oh yeah, and Longhorn can kiss my a**! That looks destined to be the most bloated Kentucky Fried Code eating monster which will bolt on every useful feature that other platforms have enjoyed for years (a brief scan of their intended features looks like a cut & paste from OSX, Lotus Notes, and *NIX flavors) ...but without the freedom! Yay. Rantus Endicus.

the reason some companies avoid version 4 is because 4 is very unlucky number in some countries (they also like parts of almost extict species instead of viagra)

In which case its no wonder the whole win98 series was a flop. it was windows 4.x

winamp did not miss out "4" because of that though, it was because they took parts of WA2 and WA3 and mixed them together. it sounds a lot better as well IMO
