Freezing problems using Pulsar 2 on new P4 DAW

System is not getting hot(I have ASUS Probe installed)
My DX7 is connected to the Pulsar's MIDI in with a MIDI filter to get rid of active sensing coming in.
Power supply is fine but will check anyways.

hhhmm, asus probe doas not monitor sharc-temperatur

doas your system freeze too, if there is no midi-device connected?

No really, sharcs don't overheat that easy. I think it was Stephen Hummel that said they could operate at very high temperatures. The Analog Devices website may have more info on the operating temperature range...

try it without closing the site frame and use a ventilator..
if there a no freezes anymore, you will need some chassis-fans...

I have a chassis fan already.

I have a silent system built in an Acousticase

Zalman heatsink with 120mm fan. Silent power supply (450W).

I really don't think this is hardware related...

Still working and waiting for the next freeze..

Today I reinstalled SCOPE over the top of the existing installation and I've been playing my Prodyssey with my Bosendorfer in GigaStudio without any freezes for the last two hours. Maybe it fixed something because it certainly is an improvement since yesterday.

My apologies if you've already tried this Paul but maybe a memory problem? Bad memory causes sporadic crashes, too.

Memory was tested with Microsoft memory Diagnostics and with Quicktest Pro. No problem was found.

I have always found Dr.Watson as being totally useless but I will fire it up again...you never know.

CPU Temperature is around 55C, 128F

Asus P4P800-e Deluxe P4 @ 2.8.

Get the excelent and free PC Wizard 2004 (http://www.cpuid.com/pcw )and see what's the internal case temperature (if your motherboard supports it).

55 is pushing it towards the high margin.

My P4C800e & P4 3.0 will hit 55 under a load, and returns to 42 when idle.

Do you have ACPI enabled dbmac? That's one sign ACPI is enabled.

No, I think the BIOS throttles down CPU speed during the inactivity periods automatically to keep it cool. I think, I'm not sure

Computer has been idle for an hour after having rested for 3 hours.

Voltage monitor shows:
12v -> 11.855
5v -> 5,053
3.3 -> 3.216-3.232
Vcore -> 1.52

CPU temp 50C
MB temp 32C

Seems fine to me.

I am thinking now that a total reinstallation is in order....

The temperatures look reasonable.
If you reinstall, please choose these basic options in the BIOS before anything: Non Plug & Play OS, HT enabled, AGP Aperture (as much as posible

), ACPI disabled. During Windows install, press F5 I think or F6 or F8 (not sure), and choose MPS Multiprocessor PC if you have HT enabled otherwise Standard PC.

Hi all - I said a few posts ago my system was fixed, but now it is freezing in the same way as the one here. I got rid of a 'PCI Overload' fault (error msg - no sound - press 'reset' - sound comes back after few seconds) by disabling all USB. Now I have a random freeze, when running audio apps, even small ones. I have been testing by letting them loop while I do something else. On return, bingo, frozen. Also freezes when I am working in a program, but music only not other apps.
My temp is 50 C (CPU), I have a new PSU, HT disabled, ACPI enabled, VIA patch installed, etc etc. These tweaks helped (ASRock P4VT8) mobo, P4 3 GHz, 1 gig ram).

I am also thinking a a complete reinstall - XP, all peripherals, SFP, then minimum audio programs - ie not all those demo versions etc that end up on a PC.

OR - buy an Intel old cheap pc to host the SFP synths, use this ASRock PC for mixingrecording etc (and running the sequencers etc).

I will let you know how the tests go.
