what scope 5.0 needs? poll
From what I am told, TigerSHARCs are pretty expensive for what you get. It's always a trade-off as well to have number of DSP chips versus their individual power....for example, 6 of the DSP chips used in the Pulsar board are about the same power as 1 that we use in the Solaris, but maybe the price is similar to one of the old chips. Maybe a TigerSHARC is equal to the power of 10 older chips, but the cost is 3 or 4 x (I am not quoting real numbers, just a rough example for the discussion). So, you see that it's not always about the fastest or biggest chip, but the combination of function and cost that comes into the design.
Of course, if you have limited space on your circuit board, you have to go with a more powerful single chip like in the ASBs....but still, one Solaris dsp has more power than those.

Can I get a 15 DSP chip Solaris?
Just kiddin' Chief.
Thanks for the explanation, it is always nice to get the scoop from you on anything CW / SC related. I look forward to meeting you in person finally at NAMM '08. UE has been sold, so I am just free as a bird there to fly around and swoop down on unsuspecting inventions.
Will there be a SonicCore booth, or is this a JB / SC booth?
I have dreams of a hardware Solaris dancing through my head nightly !!

Hey Jimmy!
re: NAMM - actually, even though I applied with plenty of time ahead in early August, NAMM has told me there are no booth spaces for me!
I'm still waiting to see if a cancellation happens so something will open up, but for the moment, I'm on a waiting list. (and it would be a JB Synth Design booth, not a Sonic Core booth. SC won't have a booth there - only in Frankfurt).

A manual with an extensive and comprehensive step by step how to guide
i.e what is going to happen when you try to.....use a synth....save a preset ....make an sts instrument......typical things that a first time user is going to want to do but wont know how to .
midi control settings that just save when you save a project .
warning messages that are ALWAYS on top

I'm hoping Scope in the immediate future (ie v5) will have
1. Better digital sync behaviour. I'm sick of having to jig things every startup to get my 9 ADAT i/o to sit right. (I have sync plate and house clock)
2. GSIF 2 (or 3) drivers.
3. A way of telling how many samples delay there has been added when inserting devices in the chain (including 3rd party ones). ie a plugin that you can add that gives you a delay value that you can compensate for in your DAW.
4. More midi control capabilities. ie use of 14bit and sysex. Thus more remote control support. Handshaking. Parameter feedback
5. Vista support I guess. I'm not in a hurry to use it tho. Using XP happily. Thing would change if GSIF/giga and VST4 go Vista only. Then I'd be forced to bite the bullet.
6. It does seem to be very finicky ASIO implementation. More solid ASIO drivers, like Soundscape.
7. The same goes with wdm.
8. Better DSP distribution. Always getting uneccessary overloads and cross board behaviour.
9. Better handling of older boards and their combination with newer boards.
10. Bring back the 3x ADAT i/o plate. At a reasonable price. Or allow more than 3 boards per system.
I'm hoping Scope in the not to distant future will have:
1. 64bit internal headroom. Scope is a really good mixing environment. Improving its summing and bit headroom characteristics would go a long way in the pro industry.
2. New generation sharcs
3. PCIe support. Or if there is another architecture change ahead. Anticipate it and jump in early. (skip pcie if neccesary) This would also go a long way marketing wise.
4. Mac OSX and linux support.
5. Multiple MADI i/o options.

osx drivers?
linux support...
hey its a 4/5 men team, this would be in no way rentable...
we should be happy to see vista drivers....
and its not just a driver, what about the sfp software iself, it has to be ported also......
I would expect many other things but no osx support or even linux drivers...

I think OSX support will last another three years at least.
SC has to earn a lot of mony first, the ASB's and the new Vista support will hopefully bring this.
At some time SC will then jump on the PCI-e train, as they don't have much choice, commercially.
Only then there's real urge for OSX support, as it looks close then.
I still believe they'd like to have OSX support.
i think at the moment they might have not more than one mac developer in the house, for the ASB software and the running mac stuff (?).
It will all depend of the revenues of the next three years.
Linux? 12 years or so?

Did you notice that the osx/linux wish was on the second list?
ie still a way off and just hoping!
Regarding the sync behavior. It seems there are others that find it finicky as well. ie needs jigging sometimes. I have posted before, trying to solve these problems and also asked Creamware/SC in the past. I've had no real help. So this was another attempt be noticed.
The PCI usage meter is a good idea.
Does anyone know if it's possible to make a plug that can tell you the sample latency introduced by plugs etc so that is can be compensated for. So phase problems can be further avoided. Would this involve a change to the platforms software?

*midi usb devices directly into scope
*modular bugs ironed out
*delay fx timing/sync bugs ironed out
*plugin surface cycling/remote open/close (no mousing){edit:got it working now, but devices don't always open where they were closed}
*preset handling of some devices updated (like dynatube)
as a tech illiterate i see no reason to talk about the hardware as the poll is about scope v5, not the hardware it runs on.
i'm already very happy with my scope system... prodyssey, spaceF, wavelength and the sdk guys make my day every time i fire up scope.
