if you don't have a lot of problems, it's boring!
beside sonic core's brassy policy.
i wonder how much i will pay for 64bit drivers (one day) if i must pay 200€ for 32bit drivers?
i guess double, because 64 is double more then 32.
ooooops. am i paranoid?
this is just a knee-jerk reaction to the sarcasm that's flying around. it's not necessarily personal and can be skipped by those who abhor drama. it's really for the public and not necessarily for those who may be "in the know".
1st, v4.5 was a paid upgrade, but those who paid, get v5 for free, which is a total rewrite of the program, something that Sonic/Core did NOT have to do for the platform. they could have said, "we're just going to develope and support XITE", because they had no responsibility to support CREAMWARE products AT ALL. instead, they extended the life of everyone's cards, developed vista drivers and began working on OSX drivers.
they are acting like decent human beings and working hard to make YOUR investment continue to be worthwhile. i can't tell you how many perfectly good products i've seen that were abandoned strictly because the company changed or wanted to move in a new direction or wanted to force the user into bying a completely new system.
there is NOTHING shady about them recouping some of their hours of work and for paying some of the most elite coders in the world(no kidding! even Analog Devices wanted to take a look at what S/C was doing when i was a NAMM, which is not to say that Scope is perfect, but it IS a miracle, ask A/D!), S/C is charging those who have old cards and who didn't pay for v4.5. it's not like you don't get anything worthwhile for the money, there are a number of new, high quality devices and improved sound.
it's NOT just a matter of a driver. the program needed to be rewritten, as it does for OSX. if it was just a driver, it'd have been written long ago.
i'm not meaning to be condescending or rude, it's just that it's quite trendy to be cynical and suspicious of those in business, especially the computer business, and with good reason. there's no evil going on here, though. it's just a small company making a very cool product that's doing it's VERY best to do a good job and make a good product, and everything costs MONEY. YOU have to pay to play, S/C has to pay to play and so do I.
anyway, the good news is, if you LIKE you cards and want to continue to use them in the newer systems, you can!

S/C is taking the Scope platform, INCLUDING PCI cards, into the future, and that' was the best news i could possibly get, personally, re: my Scope cards. there were some scary moments when Creamware went down. how fortunate it was, that the real parents of the platform, those who were it's creators bought the technology and continued the developement! they MUST be supported wholeheartedly, if one loves Scope.
well, that's my take, anyway. obviously, everyone has their own point of veiw.
