yes, if it won't reset(you can try removing the battery and then resetting up the bios), i would say the motherboard and possibly the cpu have taken a hit.

it might as well be the battery not able to hold the bios values up, which you will only notice when shutting the box off completely or unplug the cord

good point. it would be much cheaper to try changing the battery(or at least getting out a meter and checking it's voltage) before buying a new mobo/cpu/videocard.......

For the recored and anyone that might find this post in a search -I can put this post to bed now as my PC is back up and running!!!! (I Hope)

after taking the batterry out of the motherboard and putting it back again (same one) and installing windows xp over the top of my original installation.

its running better than ever, and the processor temp is down to 30-35 degrees
i'd definetly recommend taking giving your fans a clean

scope is now slaved to my O1V

fingers crossed it stays like this
