when i was at NAMM, Analog Devices came by the booth as did Digidesign, because XITE(and v5 is an extra heavy task because of XITE) is something that was thought to be impossible. when all those DSPs were linked together and actually worked, it was amazing! now, people who don't know just how unique this stuff is, feel like it's all pretty banal....

just because Scope is old by PC standards, doesn't mean that's it's not absolutely cutting edge.

I have to say...in these uncertain times....S|C has done, well for lack of better words, really has, pulled off the almost impossible. Building a new business plan from a company on the brink, to a thriving, XITEing company! Not to mention, maintaining the existing hardware/software platform, but building a new one that NOBODY can even come close to! Not to mention, the global killer user groups, generous and private developers & forum (yes I meant here). IMHO, I really don't think you will find this kind of product with this kind of support at this kind of price, that others thought was IMPOSSIBLE, in other manufacturers'...... that will remain nameless.... (DD, TC, UAD, ok I lied) :wink:

i agree. there isn't similar rack on the market. xite is probably the most powerful machine and will be for atleast 5 yars from now(personal prediction :wink: ).
BUT......we scope pci users have probably always the stability problem as a nightmare.
there are more stable pci soundcards out there. not that powerful though... but without the need of being a pc engineer in order to give you a few hours without a freeze.

and don't tell me that any of you is cool enough when you show a project to a person that comes at your studio(home or bigger)

I guess that live players have bigger opinion on that.

at the moment.. pci cards is not worth it.

When I decide that something isn't for me I move on.

Stick your cards in the for sale section and move on - just do what makes you happy 'cause that's what it's all about.

Couple more bugs whilst I'm on;

A100 key is invalid - it's listed in my keyfile but when I run Warp's A100 I get a key request - Plate, Inverse etc all work fine (I like the old interface tbh)
SC-Plate has the labels for high and low frequency reversed i.e. the wrong way around

Well i must disagree. A few users have had problems, but not all 'we Scope PCI users' have by a long shot. And believe me i am very very far from being a PC engineer. i hate them, i wish i had my simple G4 back.

I've never had a freeze in 10 years of Scope cards, and PCI is a faster throughput than that firewire/USB crap.
It's the best solution for now and for several years going forward.

The only other stable, reliable interface I've used is an RME Multiface, and THAT was PCI also.

Also i have been misunderstood.
Talking about pci cards i was refering to scope pci cards compared to xite that seems to be more stable and easier to play with.

and if xite costs 3000euros and 2 scope pros about the same then its xite that wins.

i will start selling.

also about how i f... with the pc..............

i am a virgin
only my pc is being f...... me for the past years.

I used Scope PCI cards for years on stage.
Since we really hated the music we performed and had an understanding Entertainment Director, is was the perfect solution as it crashed at least once an hour and we could take seriously long breaks.
If I wanted a stable performance I would have bought M Audio Delta's for their incredibly cheap sound and price.
I could count on Scope crashing every set to ensure our hourly 30 minute breaks.
Besides, most of us dated the dealers who do 20 on and 20 off, so it worked like a charm.
Right now I am working on a routine where I can cause crashes on the XITE-1.
Afterall I have a reputation to keep. If these cards and racks worked perfectly I'd be screwed and actually have to earn my money, so these are a perfect solution for me.

it's all good, friend. but you DO try to get the thing to do more than it will do. i know how computers are, they're tantilizing. the more work they do, the more one wants them to do. my point was that a conservatively built rig works nearly flawlessly, within the limits of it's power and function. i'll bet that the XITE is better though...

So I wasn't going to install this version of SFP but I had some time yesterday and put it in. It's working good, I haven't had any problems, small thing opening 4.5 projects but a rename of my 4.5 folder fixed that and everything was smooth. I got my keys last week so I'd be ready when the final version comes out, but I want ahead with this. There is plenty I haven't done yet, just some mixing and mastering, but it's working smooth, I like it, I like the new look too. I had to manually update the driver for one of my cards, thanks to Shroomz for that tip, otherwise smooth installation, just took time to transfer presets and dsp files and all the other extra devices, but not too long. Alot of clicking "no" though as I didn't want to sort out just which dsp files were copies so I copied the whole thing over to the new folder and just didn't overwrite any new dsp files. It all worked good.

One question though, what's with the c++ thing installing? I had on my backup external drive and it installed or unpacked at least to there for some strange reason, normally I don't have this drive on while recording, is it going to matter?

Not a bug but I notice there are 2 stereo compressors, one named SC-C S and one named SC-CS just a space is the difference, they seem the same, I guess one should be removed, one has a factory bank in the preset and one doesn't no presets though, just a default in it, that's the only difference I see between these 2 comps.

If it's a .Net package (or similar), you can blame MS I think. I've noticed more & more recently that their installers have a habit of unpacking to whatever drive it feels is necessary. In my experience, I'll regularly find odd dirnames or even a root dir structure with MS installation package(s), digging into the installer list usually reveals what it is. I most frequently see this with Windows Update (especially on Vista/Win7) which is funny because the 'main' update dir will still be under the Windows directly, but files that are unpacked from within that %Windows%\updatedir\ still go to 'other' drives for some reason. It's becoming more common in 3rd party application installation when they require MS the runtime distrubition installers too.

Ok here in soundforge, you have to go in your preferences/audio 'Audio Device Type' then choose 'windows classic driver' ,go to 'default playback device' and there you see 'Scope pci Audio 1 or 2 .....'

I don't know if anyone has already reported this but:

When I load sl9000 as an insert into 2 different channels the settings of the second one affect the sound of the audio signal going into the one entering the first one,which I have coming from ASIO channel 1.

Haven't tested it with other ASIO channels but it seems they're are not independent.

I don't know what all this talk about Scope PCI being unstable is all about. I seriously can't remember Scope ever crashing on me. Except for a bug (I think) where Scope won't always start properly on windows startup it's completely stable for me.
Sure there are bugs here and there, but that's different from program stability.

It's times like those when a click no to all would be very useful!

Has anyone found an issue with scope 5 resolution. On my system it doesn't display correctly at 1680*1050 so spacef fb series mixers are not fully displayed.
Also I have a bit of a graphics anomaly with a black bar that runs below the screen and is viewable when scrolling in the routing window. Minor grips though this is a nice upgrade but won't be running it on my music partition just yet.
