a wish list forum.

I am transferring this from "Creamware user set-ups", as per atomic's request!

what would you buy if you could?

blazeboylan's list (page 6) was full of stuff I have never heard of, anyone else want to enlighten me on cool gear that would be great to have?

No fair, that list was just the compressors I would buy! :wink:
Non-tube compressors I would buy:
  • The now-ubiquitous Empirical Labs Distressor, sounds good on everything
  • Bill Skibbe maker of a cheap LA-2A clone, of which I just saw 2 rave reviews
  • Purple Audio, whose older MC76 (1176 clone) seems to be quite popular among old school Urei fans
  • Alan Smart, maker of the C2 "SSL G" style bus compressor
  • Crane Song, makers of the very transparent STC-8 mix bus compressor
Tube compressors I would buy:
  • Gyraf Audio mastering studio / tube gear maker
  • Tube-Tech, makers of the popular CL 1B tube compressor
  • InnerTube Audio, maker of the pricey bus compressor "Atomic Squeezebox"
  • And of course the Sebatron VEQC2000

For what it's worth, if I were looking for a compressor to put on individual tracks or drum buses etc I would go with the Distressor, hands down.

Mix bus compressor would be more up in the air.

Apparently everyone here is happy with what they have...how nice!

Not a dreamer out there, we are supposed to be artist's, aren't we?

Or is it just that everyone is so busy making music that they don't have time for this tom-foolery? That's a good thing!

Mind you, I haven't posted anything either so I am the first to be stoned (I mean with rocks, not the other kind...)

* a 40+ ft sailing yacht (doesn't need to be the fastest/fanciest. primarily for living on)
* a mercedes sprinter van
* two apple powerbooks
* the future CW firewire unit, make that two as well, and the A16Ultra... why not
* orange guitar amp, to team up with my PRS (might cause imbalance on the boat :smile: )
* martin acoustic guitar
* what the heck! i know a guy who makes the most delicious bass guitars. one of those customs! and a fender jaguar, too
* a nice but modest selection of mics
* custom made midi controller
* 88 weighted keys midi keyboard
* a 8U rack of the finest dynamic processors/preamps (i'll let you guys decide which ones)
* one of the smaller midas mixers
* klein&hummel monitors
* the slickiest Specialized mountain bike

* some money to buy food, pay for harbour fees and gas, new socks once in a while, and that skirt that would make your woman look like the embodiment of spring...

* could i also get a constant temperature of 21° C/70° F, not too much sun please (you know: blue sky with white fluffy clouds), a drizzle now and then, and lots of wind in july/august...

thank you

I want to check out neuron.. I've only seen it once in Japan.. but heck, if I had the money, I'd get it to test it. Anyhow, here's a list off the top of my head:

Neuron
Kyma
Dual G4 just for Max/MSP
brass band that plays like JB's band
a live strings section
really funky guitarist
vintage alto sax
Cuban flute (the wooden ones)
Rhodes Stage Mark II (and a specialist that tunes it)
Wurlitzer 200A (and a specialist that tunes it)
A super omni-directional sensitive mic to record strange sound effects
4 year funk keyboard lesson from Herbie Hancock
4 year jazz piano lesson from Bill Evans
4 year brass arrangement/orchestration lesson from George Gershwin
My own theater (for stage performances)

satisfaction.
the right to live just because.
freedom from pestilence.

roommates without sardines.

cd press.
lawyers.

some real expensive mics and pres and a room to use them and money to pay the musicians and promote the work.

some nice big audiences for as long as i need them.

a nicer, more sensible human world should fix the whole thing....

I did say things you could "buy". I did say "gear". I'm sure we'd all like world peace and dogs that would fetch us beer, but I'm talking about gear here, hear?!

Whether or not garyb and borg can get together and make a deal on his "woman's skirt" or not is none of my business.

But I was looking for a list of the ultimate gear purchase. Also, since we are in tech talk (and I'm not sure at this point we should be), I would expect that someone would wish to build the ultimate computer, so what would you get to run your studio with if money was no object?

I know i'm thinking a server board with dual processors and as much RAM as I can jam into it. Maybe a SCSI Raid configuration. Rack mount case and one of those pull out and flip up LCD monitors that lives in one rack space, also the flip out keyboard. Of course as much Pulsar power as can be stuffed in there along with a couple of A16 ULtra's.

And better speakers, I do lust after a pair of PMC's, or maybe something from Dynaudio. And some Bryston amps to drive them.

Blue Sky also make a stunning powered speaker.

There, that feels better...

Hmm, as long as you stick to buying my woman clothes, it is ok. But just don't "try" anything, ok? She may look like the embodiment of spring, but the rest of the spring part (if you know, what I mean), is my bussiness.

I thought you said you wanted "the skirt that would make "your"(therefore meaning "his") women look like the embodiment of Spring".

I myself have no interest in such things, of course, but, just to keep tabs on what kind of price used women's skirts are going for...is it a designer skirt...wait a minute, did you mean a dress or a skirt, it's hard for just a skirt to have the desired effect..unless that's all she is wearing, then yeah, that says "Spring" to me!

I am not shure, nprime, but I think you ask this question the wrong place. It is my impression, that a good deal of the specific gear anwers you would get here at PlanetZ comes from people, who only heard about the gear. I could be wrong, though.

If you want to talk top of the line high end gear, I think prosoundweb's REP forum or gearslutz's forum are more suitable.

I would go for a nice house at the country side. Somewhere, where I could get my own lake for angling, and a stream passes thru. A big barn would be rebuild into a studio, where I would put some great monitoring system - after having used a full month of interrail card traweling Europe to HEAR the stuff by myself.

Spare time - would be great to get a child and be able to stay home and raise it (also good for playing music, walking forrests, enjoying my girlfriend).

Music lessons - YEAH!

and all the regular stuff: Mics, pres, comps - what I happen to like, when I HEAR it. Nice guitars, a bass, a (low noise) drum kit - stuff for making a rehearsal room in the barn.

A nice big party for my close friends.
Another nice big party with plane tickets payed for all you PlanetZ people.
Something realy nice for John for keeping this forum going.

I guess, I should start playing in the lotery some day.

Mostly, I just asked the question to amuse myself.

It is not about the destination, it is about the journey!
