Years ago I used to use a guitar pedal phaser on my old analog hardware. The effect was incredibly thick and rich.

Unfortunately *nothing* in SFP or native has ever come close to the power of that pedal.

Laying software phaser on too heavily just seems to produce huge amounts of resonant distortion and is quite woeful. Others are only marginally more powerful than a chorus.

Anyone who knows the "Metamatic" album by John Foxx will know the sort of phaser I'm talking about

Please, a super-heavy phaser effect....

I have one. it bleeds rather than "have guts". Sounds like some that you can hear on Bob Marley's "Uprising" (the LP). not sure it is very metamatic, it's not "spacey" (but it certainly has a lot of character and make you want to bite something  Nothing to do with any digital phaser you've ever heard (even hardware). It is modulated by various sources, inluding enveloppe followers.
Can't be ready before next year though (unuseable by the common pulsar user : no gui, no controls for the moment... would take too much time to do now).

was just gonna add this one to the dust collector thread:

ibanez jetlyzer jt-70

two 4,5V batteries for two hours play time was a bit too much for a student at the time. still have it, but hasn't been played for about 8 years.

a nice vst fx is 'supaPhaser'. you can find it at the smartelectronix site

another heads up for the supaphaser, it's quite thick and has some nice tweaking abilities.

Borg, I was kidding of course (well, if you really want....).
Best phaser that sounds like hardware (at least) ?
Stoned Phaser from Guitare Rig
http://www.nativeinstruments.de/index.php?guitarrig_us
(i just tested A/B tested again. now i'm sure of my statement)...
And yes, it is metamatic-able and (Cure-able too  ). I guess that with all its capabilities, and additional components, it is bob marleyisable too...

I tried SupaPhaser and didn't like it as well as Ultrafunk's Phaser which is now bundled in Sonar3 PE. I also liked the Timeworks one a lot, it's DirectX only though.

I love the phaser coming with Vaz Modular and well ... most effects on VazMod not to mention that it's IMO the best sounding native synth since Version 3.

SupaPhaser was good - better than most - but still not really gutsy like hardware...

The phaser of the classic series is very good, at least for me.

i wonder if hiss, in pedals, is an important parameter for "realism" , it does add something most softwares don't (even though, some do include noise sims) ...
just a thought....

plus, a good phaser is always mono-->mono... (stereo phaser is bad eventhough i did some in the past, that i never liked nor used. sounds much, much thinner.. ahhh, user requests  )
(but that's personal taste, you have the right to like stereo phasers. we're talking 'bout "phasers with guts which does it like john foxx metamatic" here, ie "old scholl" stuff  ).
