No, it wouldn't be a waste to get both. That's what I did. My G2 should be arriving any day now. Have you tried playing around with the G2 editor software? You can download it from Clavia and try it out. Of course there is no sound, but you can see how the editor works. Very, very nice. Also check out the new modules which should be included in the editor update to be released in a few days. The DX7 FM router module looks killer! I've been wanting something like that for Mod III for a long time.
Another option is to get the G2 Engine which is a lot cheaper than the G2. I've been in dire need of a decent keyboard controller, that is why I went with the G2.
I guess I don't have the money for both anytime soon
So maybe I'll buy an Alesis Micron to fill my need of small keyboard (for mobility) and hope CW will make a NOAH with modular, 3-4 -octave keyboard a sampler and.. and...
I'm getting the G2 Engine soon. Great sound and great price. I'm glad the Noah will end. It seems like they are catching on to the fact that no matter how incredible their products are, most musicians are poor. Bravo to Creamware! I hope you survive.

I have yet to meet a poor musician. Anyone who can afford as much booze and pot as the typical musician is NOT poor.
But we all have our priorities.
Nevertheless I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiments. Bravo to CreamWare. Diversifying is rarely a wise strategy. Getting back on track, with a proven track record, is wise.

I've heard that before. I also have heard some people say they don't like the Virus sound. Go figure. I think all brands are unique. Wavetable synthesis has got to be my least favorite though in terms of the sound of it but then again my Yamaha S80 has a sweet sound and it's ROM sounds so I guess it all depends.

But there is something about the sound of Clavias. I until recently owned an original Modular, and sold it because I just couldn't handle the sound. If you like the Nord sound, you probably won't get disappointed, but it's nowhere like a Virus, Minimoog or Waldorf.
You are of course right. Different synthesizers have different character. It's just a bit weird. Most people I've been speaking to just don't like the sound of the Clavias. Before I bought my Modular 1 I listend to the sounds on their site and thought... wow! This must be a real monster. But after a couple of weeks I just realised that I never used it. I hate when things like that happen, when you buy stuff that you don't like.
