i´m frustrated about my PCI capacity

It was to sdlow

my old 845... i had 70 to 90% cpu load in bigger projects.
( but i know: never run a changing system ? )

As far as i know 845 865 and 875 should have the same PCI bridge. But no one never knows if they have changed some things.

From a quick read, I'd say that the reason for upgrading to the 865 chipset would be to suport the faster FSB of the latest P4 CPUs. Looks like they have changed the bridge which connects to the PCI bus...

I have become a secret message to set PCI Latency to 32. And that worx !
I cant beleve !

Isnt it an idea to create a knowledge database ? Or is there already one ?

perhaps something like: setup for "ASUS P4blah" and for "GB P4Blah" and for "MSI P4Blah"
Where you can see.. "ok PCI slot 3 + 4 + 5 and bios settings and USB blah"

? or MATROX G450: 16 Bit for Matrox cards is totaly wrong ! on 32 bit its much faster ! perhaps its usefull on other cards but G450 here it works best in 32bit .
Im confused ..! Creamware tolds me to set PCI Latency to 128 or above .. and 32 works best . And CW sup. told me to disable hardware acceleration and 16 bit mode .. the only thing happens :my system only gets slow.
ok its not easy to give an advice for everyone, but isnt that a reason to create a database ? Yes here is a searching funktion and i have already used it .. but it doesent always find the right postings..

Great news, glad the problem's solved

For the configurations with different systems, I'd like to encourage everyone to add setup and major tweaks to theCreamware User Setups! If you did so before, please keep it up to date! That page can be used perfectly to mention these minor details that make a huge difference...

That's not entirely surprising - instead of the graphics board processor doing the hard work, the CPU has to do it instead!

hi

i'm the author of irc secret message(32 pci latency),ehehehe,but the idea is coming when i read this thread and various kind of tricks and the atomic one's about pci latency and smooth work of pci;i have raise in bios the size memory of the agp gfx card
from 32 to 128 (plato tweak)
is the first time i have tried this latency
(always set to 64 128 and for few time 256)
but in my system (asusp2bf p3 733mhz 786ram
3 cards pulsar2 luna2 powewrpulsar matrox dualhead 400)now seem i can works for hours without annoyng problem(pci limited reached stm connections overflow etc...)
i hope now to have a more stable sfp4

also i will try to enable Firewire and USB because i like optical mices on USB ..

Hey, r4Ge, glad you've sorted your problems out.
I guess your comments in User Setups were directed at me:

I just wanted to say I wasn't 'telling' you to do anything - merely suggesting trying it...all graphics cards seem to behave differently, and it's only by changing settings (one at a time) that you can learn what works best for your system.
As it happens, I've just realized I have got my acceleration full on

but I know turning it off has definitely helped in the past - in fact, I've just tried my system both ways, and don't notice any significant difference either way (with my set-up configured as it is at this precise moment).

Also PCI latency - mine IS on 32 too....I think I set it to 64 when I was trying to get ACPI mode to work, but 32 + Scope in Low Priority is cool for avoiding PCI overflow.

Sorry, everyone, if I've mislead you.
NB both these tweaks are suggested in the Pulsar manual (acclrtn OFF, Latency 64).....not that it's gospel or anything!

those instructions come from the days of 400mhz p3s....
i usually set pci latency to 128...

Yo, my system iss realy optimized now. I have moved the PCI matrox in Slot 1 so it wont overheat the Pulsar.
And its still working lovly

About Parhelia as far as i know the maximum resolution in "triple head" is 3072*786 isnt it and all three monitors must have same resolution and refresh rate thats totaly unusuable for me. Because i cant affort three TFT´s. And i asking me what will Matrox do with this parhelias ?
The dont realy support triple head ? They are not usuable for gaming ?
On my both G450 i have 4 realy independent Screens. ( i use three ) Not possible on parhelia, so far ? Right ? I have read that in the Support database from Matrox.
Isn´t it a Joke to get a tripplehead Card with screenresolution of 1024*786 on each monitor ? And a Streched Desktop

When you maximize a window it will popp over all 3 screens, wonderfull ..

I think my G450´s will stay by me next Years

Parhelia/P750 is a nice idea, but the second and third monitors have to be analog. Of course if you're using CRTs, that isn't a problem...

When PCI Express comes out, you can get a VIA board with AGP and PCI Express and take everything off the PCI bus!!

YOu wont believe it !

My CPU, i have ordered was a P4 3,2 and because it needs some time to get it, my PC dealer gives me a celeron 2.4 for that time until he gets my P4.
Now i got the P4. I have only cahnged the CPU.... and again PCI CAPACITY REACHED !
Nothing changed on OS, no cards changed, nothing changed in BIOS.
I made a Backup of this installation and installed XP in Standard mode without HT.
And i get PCI overload´s if i open a old Project. RRRRRRRGGGGH !

I think the only thing changed is the Power consumption (?) ...
Now i will try a 500W Powersuply otherwise i dont know what i can do .. if this doesent help. Then i should try a ASUS P4 800SE ?

I hate my PCI-BUS :<

it's a real pity for you, my deepest regrets.
But on the other hand it's a great proof for the nonsense of todays 'run for power' hunt.

You didn't even notice the CPU difference in the first place and I'm pretty shure you won't later unless your main app is heavily P4 optimized

There are other things much more important for an overall system performance but a big number - Intel and AMD are changing their policy (according to the latest CPU numbering ideas), as Apple has done it over all the years. Though I'm not shure the latter will keep their path (after all their latest nonsense)...

Just take it as an experience, a painful though, but it can help you spare cash and nerves later on.

rage, as other people have suggested I will say that its the PCI graphics card that needs to be eliminated first. Either that or you should run your Scope card in a second system that's dedicated to just it if you MUST run a pci graphics card in your main system. You were lucky through some fluke of irq priorities and pci slot numbers on your last bus and without researching to the same depth its unlikely to work properly through just random hardware tweaks. If you want to continue to try hardware tweaks, an app like SiSandra or NvTweak that will allow access to setting specific info on individual pci (and agp) slots will allow you to check the default pci latency for the matrox cards and edit them directly, rather than just adjusting the default for the whole pci bus (which manufacturers usually override in their driver).

I'm also curious what harddrive controllers you're using and what network & usb controllers etc you are using. Usb 2.0 has a dedicated line in the intel chipset but I believe that usb 1.0 still sits adjacent to the PCI-32 bus. Ditto for any additional (non SATA) raid controllers etc.

As you can read at the beginning of this thread i dont Use USB and Firewire.
The Ethernet chip is a CMD (?) device so it should not use PCI capacity.
And the thing is the new system works with that temporarily Celeron 2,4 and both Matrox cards! And i have only changed the CPU. And it have to work with that PCI G450!
I need 3 Monitors ! and I have already tried the Matrox G750 its totaly crap !
If you want to use 3 screens you have the same resolution on all screens and a streched Desktop .. totaly crap and the resplution in triple head mode is 1024*786. whats that? ... a professional Matrox grafix solution . haha

No, i will try this weekend to get the problem solved .. otherwise i change to ASUS P4P800 ( my brother will hate me for that )

Just as a matter of interest, have you tried running Scope at different latency settings ?.....
Last night I was getting some dsp overloads in a large project with (amongst a lot of other stuff) 2 STW Plate reverbs.....
trying to record a mix via ASIO and it was coming out all garbled...
I REDUCED the ULLI setting from 13ms to 7ms, and everything was sweet!!! -
Not sure why it works but I'm more than happy: of all the plugins I have, the Plate Reverb seems the most demanding, but if it's happy at lower latency, that's cool by me

REVERBTEST stops as reverb number 18 inserted
so i have 17 reverbs without PCI overloads !!!! bhahaha

UPDATE: ..
after some more trouble i have kicked the MSI 865PE Neo Board and replaced it with an itel D875PBZ (V.CXXXX-301).
The installation was like a dream, no problems, no pci slot trouble.

i must give a a+++ for that Board.
