Hi all,
I really need a good EQ for my productions, to be used on insert in critical traks as well as for mastering.
I haven't find on Pulsar plugins I have (only the plugs which comes with PulsarII) and in dx plugins something i like really.
So I'm considering to buy a TCPowercore board first of all for Sony Cambridge Eq.
Btw i really need your advices.
Is there some plugs for Pulsar (also 3rd part plugins) which really worth the money?
I don't have problems on spending my money, but i want to be really sure that i'm spending it for a good product.
Is timeworks one really good?
Someone who have Powercore and Sony r something, should give me an advice?
Thanx a lot for any replies and thanx for this great community

see the ISON by de-vice thread in the announcements section - I'm downloading my copy (aquired last night) right now in this moment

It seems to be well thought out and as far as demo restrictions allowed the sound was detailed and pleasing and different from any eqs I've tried on SFP.
In fact I've often stayed away from equing at all because it just didn't sound right - either hardly to notice or artificially colored.

cheers, Tom

* hi marcuspocus - some witchcraft involved

comparaison specs are nice but trust your ears!
(i have not tried ison, but i´ll do next days!)
Doas ISON use standard scope atoms/algorythms?

best,
andre

I think the Time works Vintage EQ is supposed to be quite nice, for me I really enjoy using the UAD pultec, and as mentioned the ISON looks promising.

Also depending on how dialed in ya wanna get hehe, the 24 band EQ is free is a pulsar 2 I belive.

Cheers!

vitage eq sound good, indeed!
...if only it had a better interface with graph
(but sv 517 tops all to my ears)
i like the sound of compressor x too but it´s hard to work with the interface...

best,
andre

in a recent eq test in a swedish studio magazine the "elemental audio eqium" came out as the winner.

http://www.elementalaudio.com/products/eqium/index.html

10 different eq's were tested.
besides audio quality value for money and number of bands etc was also taken into consideration.

personally i've never tried the eqium but to me the voxengo gliss eq (which came in 2nd in that same test) is hard to beat.

I´ve tested the Eqium last night a bit and I like it. The gui is well sorted and easy to handle, for my taste. The sound is meticulous.

I really like the fact that you can use as many bands you like, that let´s you create any curve you want.

There are two things I miss, though.
The combination of a spectrum analizing unit and an EQ is great, like it is in one of the Voxengo EQs.
Second, I couldn´t type in the values for frequence etc. manualy, you always have to use the sliders, that´s takes too much time.

Has anybody tested the Linear Phase EQ from Waves?

The ISON look really promising... I will download the demo asap.
I sincerely tried about all the DX and VST plugs around and i really haven't find nothing i really like, also Waves' which sounds so "metallic"...
Btw someone has a PowerCore or UAD and maybe can compare EQs from that to Pulsar's Timeworks, ISON or others?
thanx for the moment for all your interesting replies

...yes but that doesn't justify it's hefty pricetag.

not when companies like voxengo releases stuff that has some very interesting features such as dynamics and fft export function, on top of it's pristine sound quality, for roughly a quarter of what sonalksis charges.

are 239$ too expensive for a high end eq? i do not think so
have u tried them?
if there is a better and cheaper eq around, let me know it and i´ll change my mind!
i´m always looking for cheap high-end plugins.
the eqs mentioned above are a great piece of work too!
moreover, i´m using a lot of freeware like sir and digitalfishphones. (the de-esser rules)
the price doas not count to me.
(of course, i cannot afford a neve desk)

maybe, this could be interesting for someone:
http://www.it.usyd.edu.au/~mcraig/projects/paris/

was the sonalksis eq tested by the swedish studio magazine too?

by the way, the sx/nuendo build in eq "q" is a QMetric algorythm.
it´s quite useful!

best,
andre

yes Andre, the sonalksis was also tested and came in on a shared 2nd place (together with voxengo gliss eq2).

according to the test the sonalksis had the best sound. but came a bit short on number of bands and price.

i have heard the sv-517 and i agree, it sounds really sweet. especially the top end, it has that "luxury shimmer" to it!

but there's something about voxengo's gliss eq2 that keeps me stuck with it, it's very musical and some editing features such as ability to see the kickdrums' eq curve on the fft spectrum while you're eqing the bass
has become invaluable to me.

check it out Andre! $79 IS a bargain for such an Eq!
