ACPI query

Thanks to all that contribute to this forum. Your tips and advice have helped my XP install to run very smoothly so far.

I have one small query at the moment about the ACPI assigning of interrupts...

It appears that one of my Scope boards and my LAN are sharing IRQ 20. Is there an easy way of recifying this without moving my Pulsar/Scope cards about?

I am looking to reassign the IRQ of the LAN controller to something like IRQ 17 as I have noticed that this one appears to be free.

Can anyone help me?

Apart from this and getting used to Windows XP the whole upgrade couldn't have gone more smoothly. Thanks again.

It could do the magic if you are able to disable something in the device manager, thus freeing more resources. For example, do you need *all* usb ports to be active? I've disabled all other usb conrollers except the one I have cubase dongle attached. I'm using dualboot system, so I have diabled LAN too as it uses the same IRQ with uad-1. It's a bit tricky situation with acpi/apic as you can't manually assign resources at all.

Also, you can make different hardware profiles (+user accounts), so in your 'music' profile you have LAN disabled and in 'entertainment' profile you have LAN enabled. Thats quite simple, just using 'switch user' feature.

Only way to go really is to change the slots occupied by your Pulsars.

Yeah - under ACPI it's the O.S. which will make the IRQ assignments & IRQ sharing.

i.e. AFAIK, you can't 'force' an IRQ number to a device under ACPI. Moving it to a different PCI slot may change the assignment, though.

I don't ever remember being able to change IRQs under standard PC either. It's true that some mobos allow you to change the IRQ for each slot, but this does not change the fact that certain peripherals/controllers are hardwired to share with certain slots. The only way to get a unique IRQ for your cards is to put them into slots which do not share with anything else (when using multiple Pulsar cards, it's useful to use slots which share IRQs with each other though).
