I was just wondering how vinco shapes up against its rivals.
Whats it like compared to the 1176 emulation on the UAD-1 (as thats basically what its trying to be) Or shall we say the Waves R'Compressors?

The native version of the Waves Renaissance compressor doesn't hold up. I personally prefer the UAD-1 compressors over Vinco but I've got audio files made by Jesse Medway that demonstrate just how well Vinco holds up against his old $3,200 DBX 160SL. You can hear them at:

In my opinion Vinco is quite comparable with the UAD-1 compressors - and the compressors are probably the main reason for many to buy UAD-1 in the first place!

Eric,

In which applications do you prefer the UAD compressor to the Vinco? By that I mean compressing individual instruments or an overall mix.

The UAD-1 compressors have more character whereas Vinco can compress harder with fewer side effects (meaning it's more transparent). If you think about it, this is how most people would describe the difference between a real LA2A & a better DBX, too.

The vinco is very sharp and crisp, again just like the dbx160sl. there are times though where i wish it was a little more "buttery" like a tubetech or even a distressor.

vinco pretty much "makes" my DAW mixes sound great now, bypass it and they sound flat, enagage and they spring to life.

sonalksis just released their new comp and im dying to hear it.
