1. Install XP using hyperthreading on (so you can switch back and forth)
2. Install Pulsar in slot 3 or 4. Rest of the slots are shared.
3. After XP is installed turn off HT.
4. Turn off USB in BIOS. The 8 USB ports share IRQ with PCI slots 3 and 4. Theoretically, if you leave one slot open, you should be able to use 4 USB ports. But I dunno which 4. Experiment.
So there, you're good to go. And anyone else with P4P800 please correct me if there's a better way to set it up.

I don't have this specific motherboard.
I do have an Asus TUSL2c, and I don't bother too much about the physical placements of the cards - or anything else. I can just change the assigned IRQ - and if the slot I want to use shares with anything else (no noughty comments please
), then I just assign the USB controller or whatever to a different IRQ, and boom they don't share anymore.
I believe it works fine this way too.

Hey Guys,
I'm about to buy a new pc (internal parts that is). I have a Luna II. I want to buy a PIV 3 ghz with 800 mhz fsb. Now which Mobo would suit me the best? I have an eye on the p4p800 deluxe but would you guys say that i better go with an other board. I prefer to use an Intel chipset. Any idea's?

P4P800 is working just fine for me after I set it up right. I would imagine the deluxe version is also very similar. I don't have the specifics on the deluxe version, but I'd think there's a way to get it set up with optional HT (turn it off when using audio app) and also ACPI. Turning off HT doesn't make much of a difference anyhow.
yesterday a older friend of mine working since 15 years a a mac also visited me, and I showed him planetz, with all the positive vibes and huge information offered here.
Ater reading some threads he asked me, what the hell are they talking about, ACPI, IRQ, HT and mobo's.
He even didn't know what a 'mobo' was, while music production is where he lives from.
Can you imagine how easier a life is without these issues?
However, I'm glad you're on track again Ken, congrats!
would have placed here the thumb-up smilie but it's muted on the source page.
So I give you this
one, just turn around your monitor

Pulsar finally works for me, but I'm starting to have a feeling that Pulsar's extremely sensitive to its surroundings now. I'm not sure why, but when I use ASIO (as opposed to MME) I get random freezes and I have to reboot. Sometimes I can work for a long time, somtimes it's immediately when I load Logic. It's not Logic specific either, I get it in Bidule also.
It may be Lan card, I dunno. But it's starting to become a bit silly as I used to be able to use MSN messenger, USB and all sorts of gadgets at the same time without any problems. And even record while doing all that. Long live P4T-E. With P4T-E, it was literally plug in and go. Now I'm in a tweak mess. Hold on just yet before I sign P4P800 for a "Ken's Pulsar certified".

I could have found the solution to the ASIO problem. I did a fresh install of SFP on my C drive, but was running an old copy of SFP. I copied the old SFP on top of the new SFP and things seem to be working. So, the you won't have the ASIO problem if you're running a proper install of SFP. I think... still testing for stability.
-edit
Well, maybe not so fast. It still hangs. But I guess it's always good to be runnning a proper copy of SFP.

the p 4 p800 is rocking solid even with ht here...On 2004-01-24 11:32, kensuguro wrote:

what are your problems?
did you sloved the active-sent bug in that way?
i noticed, that midi active sent is not a problem if you are connecting the midi-in after starting sfp...
strange but true

again:
i cannot recommend any deluxe version.
there are cpu-spikes even with low cpu-load.
the p4 p800 seems to be the only "audiophile" mb out of this series..
(tested with cw AND rme)

Andre: I'm very curious about your setup. Can you please give me details about your BIOS settings, what PCI cards you have installed and where, and also what software do you work on. I'm beginning to suspect a hardware failure of some sort. After all, my old MB died because of an electrical surge. (blew the fuse on my focusrite)
Neutron: can you elaborate on why pulsar likes shared slots?
The problem is this:
1. HT mode screws up the MME drivers and causes stutters only during record. MME plays back fine. Haven't tested ASIO with HT on.
2. With HT turned off, MME works (play/rec) but anything using ASIO causes random hangs.
Here is my setup as of now (I changed a few things around)
slot1: promise ultra 100
slot2: dsp factory
slot3: empty
slot4: pulsar II
slot5: VIA ieee host
HT turned off
USB turned off
onboard audio turned off
Using:
cooledit (mme)
samplitude 6 (mme)
logic 5.5 (ASIO)
plogue bidule (ASIO)
It's good to hear that there are people running it fine on P4P800 tho. Gives me hope.

Well, there are workarounds. Na, jk, I did get the first 2 USBs to work, but since that setup is causing ASIO problems, I've decided to take out all cards, and add them in one by one to try to figure out a combination that works with HT. I hope there's one that works, as Andre's got his working with HT.

ya, this problem's gotta be harder to beat than the othelo game on my pocket PC! lol
Anyhow, I've figured HT is just not possible for my setup. Whatever the reason it may be. I'm not quite sure how anyone could get it done. The problem seems to be with SFP not getting continuous CPU attention. The multitasking capability of HT seems to keep stealing cycles.
So I switched off HT, with a good PCI slot setup. But the ASIO problem still persists. I've checked to see if the problem was GPO (using Kontakt player engine) by using a bunch of other freeware VSTi's. The answer is? Nope, not it. freeware VSTi's hang my machine also.
It's hard to say that it's a hardware problem because MME mode works just fine. Actually, the PC works just fine as long as I don't do anything ASIO related.(so it's not a faulty RAM chip) What a mind bender... sheesh!
Is there a possibility of ASIO mode generating much more heat than MME mode? Man, the questions I'm left to ask are starting to sound obsurd!

Which flavour of the ASIO driver you using? I've decided the ASIO2-flt source 64/Asio2 Dest is the best for my setup.
Also - in the PCI setup you described above, you know that your ATA controller (slot 1) is sharing PCI bus with your firewire (slot5)? That may not be a factor, but I try to keep the HD controller all to itself.

well, all ASIO drivers crash. Actually, I did a test today with bidule using VSTi but playing back with MME, which still causes a crash. I'm guessing there must be something wrong with the way VSTi is processed. So, I'm doing a re-install of XP using ACPI single processor. We'll see what happens.
By the way, my PCI setup now looks like this:
1: empty
2: ieee (IRQ shared with LAN)
3: Promise (shared with USB)
4: DSP Factory (shared with USB)
5: Pulsar (shared with slot 1)
Additionally, I found that Slot 2 is extremely low bandwidth. I guess sharing with LAN is a bottleneck, but the effect is quite deadly on Pulsar. I got PCI overflow error by just playing back a couple of audio tracks. So, STAY AWAY FROM SLOT2.
