I recently reformatted my main system, running a matrox 550 and XP home. The problem I know have is that whenever a new browser window opens it's at the size of the last browser window I've had open.

That means, for example, that a pop-up ad will open as a full-size browser window instead of, say, 200px by 200px.

I've got the exact same problem with my DAW (also with a 550 and XP home) but it's not a problem there because it almost never goes online...

I just can't see where the option is to over-ride this. Any ideas ?

thanks

You read in my thoughts! I just wanted to ask the same question here but couldn't express my thoughts. AFAIK it was always in Windows 9.x and observe it in XP.

I think the Matrox Powerdesk was doing this - I changed the settings back to a more simple configuration and it reverted.

But then I also deleted ie6 and added it again, so maybe that fixed it ?

More than likely it was the re-install of ie6. At the moment I've got a problem with my work laptop, ie6 and XP, where the web history gets all screwed up.
Actually I've finally got so jacked off with the security flaws and quirky little problems with microsoft and IE6 that my home surfing and e-mail is now done on mozilla and linux. It's not as easy to setup but at least I retain more control that way. Any page that doesn't work with it is a page I don't want to visit in theory.

I was having am much more serious problem where the ie6 browser would hang at random moments - about every 10 minutes in normal surfing. I tried all sorts of things including sfc/ scannow, service packs and patch upgrades etc, all to ne effect.

Finally I reinstalled XP and that seemes to have worked (OK for the past 24 hours). I noticed that quite a few people running XP home and ie6 seemed to have this problem, bu no one had a reliable solution.

I think something in XP was causing it rather than ie6 because patches and reinstalls of ie6 did nothing.

I was even thinking of just buying a new basic P4 box and solve the problem that way!

A bit of a rave here, but maybe you could try reinstalling XP to solve your history problem ?
