it would be interesting to organize a poll/statistic:
in this month with CW 20% discount, how many people will buy some plugin, for the fact that there is this discount?
me fo sure (mod3, i'm coming!)
it can be a way to know if CW would sell more stuff from the online shop if price were lower.
but perhaps they already thought about this!

If one wants to buy something from CW, one shouldn't buy it at full price, there is always some kind of reduction. I guess there were lots of CW addicts just waiting for this offer to come along so that they could buy that eagerly wanted product. This is good. CW gets the most out of rich people buying their stuff at full price, but CW also ensures that the "poor" ones can get CW-stuff, they'll just have to wait for the right campaign.
Yes, but then everyone would just wait for *those* prices to come down in a special deal.On 2003-09-03 05:21, bosone wrote:

But I do know what you mean...
well... what it's strange to me is that every product, in time, is going lower in price. i'm not an economist, but it's a general trend observed for all products who are not eatables (!). it's particularly true for technological goods.
but there are two cathegory that do not follow this rule: samples cd libraries and Creamware stuff.
for the first, it's strange that one have to pay full price for a library that were put on the market 5 or 6 years ago; look for ex. to advanced orchestra or M. Vitous: is their price changed over years? no. moreover, today there are "better" sample library at similar cost (vienna symphonic library, garritan orchestral strings...). for example, why i should buy a single CD of strings at 500$ when i can have a 40GB collection of orchestral samples for 1000$? (it's just an example, so i'm not talking about quality or other issues!).
then, the other cathegoty is CW products. Luna were put on market 3 or 4 years ago (can't remember well). it doesn't seem to me that its price was lowered since then. also pulsar 2 didn't have substantial price change in this time. and 4 years in the computer market are like 40 human years! (but here the quality of the hardware is not to compare to "normal" PC stuff... so it may not be straightforward to justify the missed lower price).
when you put a device on market you have to start a new "mass production" in a semiconductor facility. but when you are producing the same thing for 4 years prices at production have gone down! why the consumers have to pay the same full price?
then, the CW plugins issue: why vectron and all other (rather) "old" pugins have mantained the same price since their appearance? some plugins, like modular 2, cannot be bought at all. why a luna or pulsar 1 user cannot buy modular 2 at, lets say, half its original price?
it's normal for the market to lower the price in time, even if the quality is very high. i don't expect a drastic reduction of 90% of the cost of online shop plugin, but a constant, little reduction from time to time.
there are certain market choices that a mortal man will never understand...
sorry for this boring and maybe flaming message, but i was very tired today here at university, so i looked for some way to let time go away!!!

I think that's an excellent point Bosone !
The comparison is even more striking in hardware. With hardware synths you pay a premium for the device when it first comes out, but within a year or two the price starts to slip down.
Not with sofware synths. The most remarkable one IMHO is the Vectron. I'm sure the three people who actually own one wouldn't be too offended if the price started falling by 50E a year. At least then they might have some people to talk to about it

I think I will drop some cash ...
The mix-master pack is now at 555 euros ...
Newcomers could buy the synths pack and they will be dressed for winter !!
Remember : the more you spend, the more you save ! ( if you need justification ... )
I wonder about CW's next move(s) ... with my money !!!!
A hot Fall maybe ?
Upgrade or drop price, I'am in !

You only have to take a look at the inflated prices of analog hardware synths to see this argument doesn't always hold. The comparison is even more striking in hardware. With hardware synths you pay a premium for the device when it first comes out, but within a year or two the price starts to slip down.
And with other hardware synths the price usually starts to drop because newer models have come out, either from the same developers or others. Since there isn't yet a newer or better model of CW cards, neither from CW themselves or something that's directly competetive, they can keep selling them at pretty much the same price. If another company was to bring out a similar DSP card with similar possibilities I think CW would be forced to drop prices but since they are the only ones that do what they do they have a virtual monopoly. With new hardware (VA) synths there is much more competition with very similar products.
btw. if you look at CW older generation cards (Pulsar I) you can see a huge drop in price on the second hand market, and it's a really good way to pick up extra DSP at a low price.

I think this current offer (discount) mainly due CW insolvency state. Because 30th sept is the end of the 3th qurtal. CW now working undo external administrator and want make as best financial results of the work as possible. This type of the discount offer(total discount on the whole plug-in range whithout any restrictions) definatly not CW style.I think we will see another surprise in the near future.
(It's my only opinion)

P.S. Help to the CW (if you can)
Just buy plug-ins. I've alredy brought some of them using latest offer. I have not been disappointed by them (mainly ProOne)
It's sounding as excellent as I just did not expected!! (mp3 demo on the CW site just not open all potential of the ProOne)
