I don't have MBox but my friend does and says the quality of the preamp is pro I can count on his ears, BTW

I don't suppose it's possible to use the MBox as a standalone device (without opening ProTools software). So in my opinion (as an Audiomedia3 user) you have to open ProTools first so it works like SFP in the background. BTW, 2 background apps at a time? Hmm... worth trying

Good idea And you can benefit from ProTools, too
And you can benefit from ProTools, too Good luck with your projects
 Good luck with your projects
AFAIk ProTools LE has got some latency but only when using plugins. You can set it to the lowest buffer and additionaly there is a setting for just recording (don't remember its name) somewhere in the setups menu
