Which would be the best convination of MOBO, RAM and AMD CPU, for the money?

I'm looking for something cheap but powerful to upgrade my wife's computer, it's not for Creamware boards, but for Multimedia and Graphics.

I've never used an AMD so I don't know which MOBOs are the best.

I'm thinking of an AMD XP 2000, a compatible MOBO, and 512 of RAM. Which is your choice?

Hi Nestor, my advice is to snooke around local shops, there must be some "good offer"
if you buy "yesterdays" equipement.
I have a 2 year old Abit MB with AMD 1200
and it's ok. (when i reinstall a graphic card  I used it for my Powersampler for 2 years.
Maybe a seconhanded solution?

For graphics, the most important part is display adapter

What is your budget? If I were to buy a cost effective processor, I would choose Amd Athlon XP 2600+. ASUS a7n8x is a nice mobo for it.

Hi, thanks guys for your answers.

My budget it's really small: $300. I was thinking about the Athlon XP 2200 and a very similar MOBO, K7 instead of K8.

My big question is if it will or not be compatible with my old ATI Rage 128, it must be, cos I can't afford to buy anything else for this machine... What do you think?

Well... I´ve tryed my ATI Rage 128 onto the P4PE and it doesn´t fit, it seems there is a whole new format for AGP. I though they would be all the same, but they are not... unfortunately... so I'm forced to buy a new graphic card too...

I guess that if the ATI Rage doesn´t fit into the P4PE, it will not fit either into the K7 K8 either...

have a look for older chipset boards with Nvidia 1 or Via KT 266 or 400. The Rage 128 is 4x AGP. That should fit. Like the actual G5 discussion, it's a matter of voltage.
