I can only double Kim on the fact G5s are only 3.3V PCI cards compatible. Look also: http://www.apple.com/powermac/expansion.html

THAT would be very bad news?
Creamware knows this too now I guess.
CW works on OS-X, so they have to deal with this.
I don't know anything about these kind of things, coz I'm with stupid
, so can anybody tell us more about the 3,5 and 5 volt issue?
Isn't this card voltage value universal??
And is it technicaly possible to change CW's cards to 3,5 volt, considering the Sharcs?
Astro, you're good in this, isn't it?
A transformer could do the job, but this circuit must be on the card itself as you can't change the slot's voltage?!
There still is also the question if two cards physically fits in the mac, coz of the STMcable taking to much room.
I don't need more Sharc's, but you never know.
What was that Magma box already?
If it works for power/Notebooks...?
Or maybe CW will offer an external rackmount DIY box to build in your card.
I'm gonne look upstairs if I can find my old Atari ST again.
Or do I realy have to switch to pc??
Oh my Go-o-d...
What mobo (motherboard) should I get?
And the Bios? Does it need food?
A-a-a-ahhh

This is truly insane. It was bad when they changed AGP voltages on us, but not too horrible because it's only one card we can easily exchange. But PCI -- that's a whole different story. How many PCI cards will not work in the G5? Hundreds. I've heard that Digi001 won't work either. Who is going to buy the G5? No one with any PCI cards!! They're going to lose their shirts!
I'm going to stick by my trusty PC.

I can give you mine though it's the 800XL with tape recorder (XL stands for extra large, you know?)On 2003-08-13 20:34, hubird wrote:

Everybody knows bios eats only ecological food (the so called BIOlogical Sterile)What mobo (motherboard) should I get?

This is shocking really. I *really* wanted Apple to do well with these new machines, in order to have a viable Logic platform.. but I can't think of a single PCI card which will be compatible with the new G5.
It is absolutely bad news for Apple.
I'm interested to see if they keep PCMCIA slots in their laptops.. Magma is a pretty important player in the pro Mac scene, so we shall see.

the nice offer Motu makes now isn't possible with DSP cards like CW's, coz of the expensive sharcs.
We 're in deep trouble I guess.
Maybe my idea of an external rack mount box will be the cheapest solution for CW to offer us.
There are withcoming the normal advantages of external handling, so I won't mind to pay for that.
Lets face it, the G5 IS a supercomputer with a super system (1000 voices, 100 reverbs at 30% performance they say).
I want 'm, that's for sure.
CW Paul, may I invite you to shine a light on this?
Doesn't CW feel tackled by this voltage switch?
CW must have known this already, I know Phatmatic Pro's develloper Art Gillespie knew it already quite a time.
We're talking about a main issue here, it alone will prevent people from buying a CW card if they focus on an older mac to start with.
From a registered users point of view it's clear that the hard barrier to upgrate to the next mac generation is a major block.
Specially now when after all a real DAW system has develloped.
I don't blame CW, that may be clear.
But CW has to do *something*, if it isn't just blaming Apple.

hmm ... pulsar boards are G5 incompatible if you fit them directly into G5 . I heard that magma is proud to announce soon that if you use their expansion chassis, you can use 5v pci cards into G% through magma 3v pci card + 3v-5v exp chassis (self-powered).
If that's true , long life to old-but-still good pulsar/scope boards . Otherwise i don't think it's very much convenient to port the whole OS to OSX , since you'll use it only on "dead" macs.
Consider it in this way : IF pulsar boards are not compatible with MAC (and IF they're not compatible) , i would prefer creamware to concentrate itself on a great PC v4 SFP software , instead of supporting a "dead" mac G4 on OSX. Or perhaps they could be out with a new card ... with much more powerful DSPs (it's the right time i think...since they have this technology since many years).

Samplaire,
i'm sure more companies will come out with a cheaper magma-style solution - there will certainly be a market other than CW users.
