Hi All,

I just got me a Powersampler because of it's STS5000 sampler.

I already own a Pulsar II which I mostly use in XTC mode (and this works fine for me).

However, I just found out that you can't use the STS5000 in XTC mode! I already searched this forum, but could not find anything on how to set up both cards properly so that I can continue working in XTC mode with my Pulsar II and use the STS from the project window.

The way I connected the STS in the project window is as follows:

I connected the Seq. midi source 1 module to the midi in of the sts5000 and I connected the outputs to the ASIO dest module.

I also connected the AnalogSource module to the STS's Rec L+R for recording.

When I have Cubase running I can't open the project window to do editing or recording in STS.

I know there's an easy answer to this issue, however it might be I'm too stupid to understand.

Any suggestions? Or do I just have to enable some sort of option in SX to get the STS working?

Cheers

You cannot use XTC & SFP mode at the same time. So you HAVE to use SFP mode to use STS-5000... (Or install the PowerSampler in another cpu.)

...so you mean by not installing and enabling XTC mode I should be able to run STS next to SX?

does this mean that I have to start up pulsar next to SX and work in two windows?

Appreciate some feedback.

Cheers,

Technically, yes. But as I've recently been discovering, if you're willing to put some time into learning how to use the Live Bar, and it's screensets options, you only need to lose about an inch of Cubase SX (by leaving Live Bar in narrow mode on one side of the screen. It's a damn powerful alternative to a dual screen setup (and even then!).

Live Bar. Do it. You'll thank yourself.

In one morning's worth of exploration, I've banished my reliance on the routing window for 99% of my tasks in SFP. Besides, SFPs mixer is far superior to SX's summing bus.

So in the live bar I can click on the STS to open the sampler?

What I also can do is use my 2nd monitor ofcourse.

How are the connections made in the project window. Do I have to route the STS's outputs to a mixer in Pulsar? Amd from the mixer to the ASIO dest module? And do I have to connect a Sequencer midi source to the input of the mixer?

In that case it's easy...

Thanks,

Yes, you can do all the routing in the Live Bar. It takes a little time to figure out the best way to put what where, but it's fairly easy. The Live Bar still has a quirk or two as far as I can tell, but seriously, if you have a project that's got more than a screenful of stuff, walk yourself through the Live Bar section in the manual and just play with everything as it's mentioned. Worth the effort. Really!

...I already tried it WITH XTC mode enabled!

The live bar stays on top of the Cubase window. Since I have a dual monitor setup I can leave the live bar on top of the second monitor (which shows the cubase mixer) and open STS or whatever synth I like to use!

Still haven't got it working but since I'm planning on upgrading to an entirely Intel based DAW I can install SFP fresh and leave the XTC mode box unchecked...

I will have to make a new projectwindow with all sorts of synths in it, but the main will be STS5000. I already searched this forum on how to setup and connect modules and as far as I can tell everything has to be routed from the Sequencer source module to the ASIO dest module. Am I right?

Ofcourse between the source and the dest modules I have STS and so on connected...

Like to hear from you...
