Hi!

Has anyone tried to use this drive for audio recording yet? Rebuilding my PC and want a more silent/bigger drive than the SCSI one I use today. A little bit worried to leave the SCSI world when it comes to audio recording (using Cubase/Pulsar)...

So does anyone has experience with this drive? Any problems with big/huge projects? Been looking at the WD Raptor as well but it's not that big and not that silent.

I guess I should have a separate disk for the system. Or has anyone tried to have just one disk for both audio and system?

Hello!
The quietest one is the Barracuda V SATA. The fastest one is the Western Digital SE. Both are very good drives, you have to choose between performance and little noise, or less performance but a noiseless system. I myself have chosen a middle point. I plan to get a Barracuda for programs, and a Western Digital for Audio. Good luck!

All baracuda Vs have the same noise-level.

From what I've read (though not seen), the Maxtor SATA's are the only ones that currently see any benefit from the new tech.

And my ATA Maxtor is perty dern quiet. The SATA drive is supposed to be even quieter though. Damn. I really hate conjecturing about cool new tech that I can't play with. I need a patron. Or a wealthy girlfriend.

...I'd even take a drink if someone's buyin ;P

I wonder if the 7200.7 is as silent as the V one? I'm waiting for the review from http://www.storagereview.com/. Anyone tried it yet?

I think I will follow your advice Nestor - get a big and silent SATA like the Barracuda for system files and sample CDs, and then get a Raptor or stay with the SCSI one for a while for audio.

In a couple of days I can tell you exactly how much noise the WD Raptor 10k rpm drive makes
