Luna II Digital I/O adapter (1/8" trs - 2 rca/spdi/f)

hey all,

i'm looking to get the digital i/o running on my luna II. its on a trs (i imagine?) 1/8" female plug though...

any ideas on where to pick up a cable to adapt to rca/spdi/f input and output?

as i understand it, one shouldn't use audio grade cabling for digital signals, video grade is acceptable though.

i figured i'd just shoot here rather than talk confusedly to some uncaring salesperson...heh.

You should use 75 Ohm digital cable (for spdif) - the best way is to prepare one by yourself or if you know where to buy such cable with a minijack at one end and 2 RCAs at the opposite side - buy it. In general - even a plain $1 cable should be suitable but in my practise I had to use the most digital (75 Ohm) compatible I colud (otherway I got sync drops

). Remember that there are also 110 Ohm cables but they are for AES/EBU connections.
I bought my cables at a local KLOTZ dealer so you can find one in your place using the internet. The 75 Ohm antenna cable should work perfectly as it is 75 Ohm but I'm not completly sure about it.

particularly for the ohm info. i vaguely remembered that thats what made video quality cabling, the ohm rating. at least this is what i remember reading.

i've considered making my own cables. i had a bad experience last time i picked up the soldering iron though! heh. i figure once my el cheapo ones start giving me all hell i'll be thinking about it seriously.

i'll call around tomorrow (maybe) to see if any place locally has such an adapter.

ps: what i want to do is hook up the luna to a korg oasys in the same machine. i'm just stringing both analog i/o's to a patchbay right now....and consequently i am picking up some rf interference from my computer. its not a whole lot...but its there. i also just like the idea of playing with digital i/o...i hardly ever get to...hehe.

sp/dif is not balanced.(ts connector only)

well...i sort of inadvertantly picked up 2 of these cables yesterday for a completely different purpose. they are just plain audio...but, when it struck me not long ago of this fact i tried one out, and hey! it works just fine.

though time will tell if i'll have any problems.

btw, what ohm rating is normal audio cabling? just out of curiousity.

Castol what modules are you using? I never got my Luna digital to work.

That's good news! On my system an el cheapo cable didn't work

abre: i officially have an elektra, and there are hardware i/o modules for it. i am using these, specifically the s/pdif source and destination modules.

i imagine the luna modules would work as well. though i haven't tried.

now...it wasn't clear to me what rca cable was the input and what was the output after adaption. i didn't catch on for a bit, then i swapped them and i got a signal through.

pardon my spanglish...heh. yah, i thought it was pretty swell that it just worked. i like it when things do that

something else i should note. you need to set one of your digital devices up as the MASTER clock and the others as slaves.
