mother board (again)

i want to change my asus p4t-e for other board which will support my p42.2. also i will like to use ddr instead of rambus.
p4t-e working good in standard pc mode, but wont work good in apic. i have pulsar and uad-1 and now i plan to buy another uad or tc powercore, so i guess that i will need more irqs.
so, what do you think is it any sense to change board and what is your suggestion?!

yes, i working for some local festival and (more important) i working to finish our second album. we have really nice critics and now i must be smart to choose label.

also, i bought uad-1 card and i'm impresed how sounds. now i think to buy another one (as i said) or powercore... hm, i will rather buy second uad

imo, gigabyte make the best P4 mobos. Check out their range. If ya going for AMD stuff, the abit nforce2 mobo is the best atm, especially if ya a overclocker or hardware tweaker.

Wait for the new boards with Intel i875 or i865 chipsets. They'll have ICH5 as southbridge: no traffic on PCI for IDE AND Serial ATA with the option for RAID 0/1. You will need all bandwidth of PCI for your Pulsar/UAD combo. i875 is the better chipset. First boards out, but wait for HW revision 1.1. Asus P4C800 is out, but uses Promise Serial ATA, not good for PCI. The perfect board will use ICH5 only.

Both chipsets, i875 (=Canterwood)+ i865 (=Springdale) are out. First boards by MSI, Epox, Asus. I hope it is possible to disable the Promise controller that come with MSI+Asus boards. ICH5R should be sufficient. But if they add a second Serial ATA, is it because they don't trust the ICH5R????

I have read it is possible in fact, to disable "Promise", but I haven't done it myself.

hoped you jumped into this. Did you already order? Well, PE is not really a bad deal.
All these new chipsets from Intel in these last months. And all sort of compromise. The 875/865 is supposed to be like the good old BX, i.e. the platform for the next 2/3 years. If that is true, and most people in business expect this, these are the boards to watch carefully. But since they are really brand new, I propose to wait at least a short time until the reviewers are totally happy with them. You know, these famous "child illness" bugs.

i will let you know how works. i will pay configuration in monday, then i will wait few days, because i can't buy this on the small island where i live.

in the meantime i make decission to buy memory: Corsair XMS 512 MB DDR400 CL2 CMX512-3200C2 (2gb) instead of samsung's.
also i will buy 2 disks: HDD 160GB Seagate ST3160023AS BARRACUDA-S-ATA 7200.7 7200rpm
ofcorse, i will buy second uad-1 'cos i'm impreset how sounds.

Maybe, but nobody expect a washing machine to create anything, and creation is a risky process, you put something of yourself in a creation process, you risk your own self in someway.

So taking a risk to buy a machine, is the same process here, you expect this thing to do more than what it's suppose to, like making a statement, cuz it do something that nobody did before, something new, that's gonna inspire you in some way... Or something in that line anyway.

Conclusion, buying a machine is a creative process

Hi Micha.
I have definitely decided to get the P4PE, and getting it in about a week or so… I can’t tell about the upcoming technology, cos you know, the market is literally overflowed with goods, and everybody, even experts, are getting mad with so many specifications.

I’m sure I’m going to have a system that will last at least for 4 to 5 years. I’m sure most of all cos one day, I’m going to buy an SRB or a second Pulsar, and this is it, I don’t need or want anything else. I have more than enough with it.

I think the risk of building a system by yourself, like we all do, is a real one. Compatibility issues have caused many problems in the past I remember, when there were many people complaining about Creamware and problems were all day through… Now that almost everybody uses Asus boards, things seem much more quite in the trouble side of things.
