Hello,

My current PC setup has had its better days and needs a replacement.
I'm wondering what would be the best system for my PulsarII card and Luna2496Box.
I know there is alot of info to find about this but its kinda confusing and some info may be already out of date too...
Below is what i have come up with upto now:

Motherboard: ASUS P4T533 (Intel i850 chipset)

Processor/CPU: Intel Pentium 4 2,400Mhz (2.4GHz)(or less?..)
Northwood Core, 512k CACHE

Memory: 512meg (2x256meg) RDRAM PC800 (does more make sense?)

Video Card: Matrox G550 (fast enough to compensate slow GUI?)

Hard Drive: 40gb Seagate Barracuda IV 7200RPM (or smaller, just for OS)

this setup is partly an adaption from the ones found on :
http://www.infinitevortex.com/default.asp?page=p4daw

can anyone comment on this?
What is RIMM and is it a better choice?
What does a -perfect- system look like today?
Anyone know of a more cost-effective alternative with same performance?(AMD...?)
Any tips at all welcome !
Thanks:)

RDRAM is very expensive compared to DDR RAM.
Most people go for DDR RAM instead.
So maybe go for a i845 chipset instead.
But go for ASUS.

Here in Norway the 2.53 mHz is'nt that much more expensive than 2.4. So i'd go for that one instead.

The video card is excellent for Pulsar use.

You should probably have 2 HD:s.
Otherwise the Barracuda V is a good choice. Very quiet.

RIMM is the same as RDRAM similar to PC 21oo is a DDR RAM.

If you're planning on using lots of samples you should go for more memory otherwise 512 is enough.

Well overall a good choice of components. But like jupiter suggested go for a 2.53 CPU or at least a 2.4 B (running on a 533 FSB). And since that ups the fsb that means that you'll need PC1066 memory instead of pc800 to accomodate the cpu with the bandwith it needs.

Hope that helps.
