You can buy a server already made from Supermicro with the CPU and parts.
Its a tiny ass 1U but looks sweet.

Actually a 2U ATX Chassis can House 3 x full length PCI Cards. There are 1Us with 2 x horizontal slots too.

Looks like a good board! - But won't be cheap! - Is that XEON chip a Xeon version of the 8700 K? - OK, it'll support ECC RAM but apart from that it's very similar to the 8700 K? - The Xeon will cost over 100 more - and the motherboard maybe more expensive than most others (it may be very good though).

Personally I've spent enough on motherboards after adding some Z97 that I was happy to get hold of with 4790 K processors. Any further CPU power can be in the form of VEP slaves if needed.

For once I can say, I'm out!!! - I've got enough boards with PCI slots, I made sure of it!!! - All regular consumer boards like AsRock, MSI, Gigabyte.

I managed to get MSI Z170A Gaming M3 and Gigabyte H170 D3HP - All with 3 PCI slots on and 7700 K

After having viewed god knows how many motherboards I'm actually fed up of it - !!!

The industrial style board being discussed here may have more durability than a regular board? - Anyhow, good luck getting the boards you need

There’s a great short profile Water Cooler for servers by Dynatron called the L3.
It’s for 1U but uses the same barrel shaped fans Supermicro has in their racks.
Might be better if you plan on OC’ing your CPU.

Also for your PCI Cards there is the Dynatron Cross Blower.
It cools an NVMe M.2 in my spare 1U.
Pretty sweet little item.

Upper left corner is the cross blower. Could help on triple PCIs.

As a person who feasts on Corporate greed backfiring, I’m here to exclaim how pleased I am about AMDs market value notching up.
At the same time Intel is dropping.
The new i7-9000 Series chips offer nothing new.
But expect new Xeon Es to be cheaper than the review sites claim
I’d buy Xeons in November.

I'll keep a watch out for the Xeon E (that is 6 cores) and see what the pricing is - but I've really got enough PCI slot boards now !

Keep us posted. I think i7 will help the new 64 bit standard more. 64 bit programs strains my current PCI system quickly.

The CPU is usually in a similar price bracket compared to the consumer CPU's, at least with past generations. This is the single socket Xeon variety after all, though you get certain features here that don't exist in consumer. However it's not the better virtualization, 512bit encryption instructions or the ECC memory support that I am interested in, it's the overall level of board stability and build. I have Xeon boards going back to the P2 era still, *and* a Pentium Pro board. All of them still work with the exception of an iWill, none of my supermicro boards have failed from anything that would be contributed to their build quality (a blown PSU or etc might take out a board though).

In regards to mentioning "a non-Threadripper AM4 board" what I meant wasn't that TR was AM4, but rather the only boards of similar build quality to what I enjoy from Xeon boards ARE the Socket TR4/Threadripper boards. So, please an AM4 board with industrial build AND pci slots! But really this is just rhetoric with only an outside chance of happening. For though Ryzen can support ECC and will likely have some solidly built boards, in the consumer end an industrial focused Ryzen board ALSO having PCI slots aplenty is not something I actually expect.

Regarding price of the new Xeon D compared to 8700 K - I've read the Xeon D will be £450 - I've seen 8700 K for £303 and I'd be surprised to see the similar Xeon D for the same price - but it may happen -
