If I were you, I'd forget the A16.

An Alesis AI-3 is a far better device and a lot cheaper as well! 24 bit / 96 KHz, 8 balanced I/O, ADAT fiber connections.

I bought mine (new) for 770 Euro...

Just take it as a friendly and helpfull hint.

does the AI-3 use SMUX to get 24/96?
Or are the convertors 24/96, and it transmits ADAT at 24/48? If the second why? If the first, does a Pulsar I support SMUX, or just the PUlsar 2?

I believe you need a Pulsar2 for SMUX, and I don't think the AI3 does SMUX.

I've checked the manual and the AI-3 transmits 24 bit /48 KHz conform ADAT specifications.

What is the point of 24/96, when it only converts at 24/48? I hope the dithering is good. . .

Nope the AI-3 is as quiet as a mouse!

As for the conversion of the AI-3: dunno, will have to dive deeper into that.

The AI-3 has 24/48 convertors & lacks the a16's wordclock & jitter-free performance. I've no doubt that it's quiet, they're_all_quiet so it's not really the issue.

Beeing friend of the ADAT distributor of my country, I must recognize that the A16 with it's 18 bit AD/DA converters is BY FAR a better sounding device than the AI-3 that has 24bit converters.

The litlle amount of noise floor it has , dont represent really a problem in comparisson with it's sound quality and solid sync features.

I have proofed both side by side in my studio and the A16 is clearly superior.

The only thing that you must care is to have a good "ground" in your audio electric installation, this device is very sensitive to this type of problems.

What about the Fostex ADAT convertors (VC-8)

That´s why I´m looking for an A16, because it has an extra Wordclock connector and these excellent sounding convertors. And it is easy to level in as the clip leds should flicker to make the bits march...

However, as the deal with michael did not work (grmblftz!), I´m still looking for one.

hai guys, here in the planet

I wolud like to buy a converter, because i want route my drummachine and anything into my computer and route back to a analog mixer, like the mackie. What i need exactly. What is the confortablest? A16 or something else???

2 willi: This does not depend on the converterbox at all, as long as it is not too noisy.

Aaargh! I still don´t have a second A16, but I still need one! Is there really noone out there selling an old A16? If I had the money I´d taken Motu´s, but I just can´t afford that.

***PLEEEEASE, someone sell his A16 to me...***

Could have been worse, I guess.

but I wait for the new product of Creamware, they say that it want develop a new Converter, who knows... till then
