BOSS SY 300 Guitar Synthesizer
BOSS SY 300 Guitar Synthesizer
Is it possible to build a scope plugin that has an oszillator that follows a guitar like the BOSS SY 300 Guitar Synthesizer?

if you're proficient with Modular, have a look at some modules found in Flexor...

Thanks Andy for the link. I will try it.
Got Flexor and Modular too. But I've no idea how it could work.
I think I have to trigger the note and to detect the tone. Are there devices that do the job?

The sy 300 is a polyphonic synthesizer. You can play single notes and chords. I don't know how they did that. It works without any latency. Maybe there is no note recognition necessary??? Like the old guitar to Midi converter, these where always fighting against finding the right midinote within a short period of time. If it works without note recognition? In this case I see a chance to rebuild a sy 300 in scope, and this would be revolutionary!

You have Alphonso's 'Zing' patch that could be found in the VIP patch section of Adern's forum, but that seems down. (not at home right now either)
but yeah, that is a mono patch.
for midified guitar, I use jamorigin: https://www.jamorigin.com/

It plays without any latency - I think it has to be a PLL like oszillator type. It does every little bending I play. 3 oszillators, filters and envelopes like
an virtuell analoge Moog. But really polyphonic.
Nice one.
If this could be rebuild in scope it were heaven for me.

Listen to the guitar player! This is exactly the problem why this idea succed. It sounds like a keyboard player on steroids, but not very normal, no feelings. Listen to the piano, it pulls my footnails off when I listen to it. And the Organ sounds like if it was played by an Uran Uthan but not by a human!
Really, when I play guitar I want to hear a horny guitar.
When I play the piano I want to hear a piano.
When I play a saxophone then I don't want to hear an electric guitar.
I keep my shoes on.

Re: BOSS SY 300 Guitar Synthesizer
That seems to work perfect. But for midi I use melodyne.borg wrote:

The SY 300 works different. You think your string is the oszillator itself.

But... The midi guitar could work with some other audio source than guitar, no ? The very interesting feature is the polyphony ! If some of you have it, could you test it on some piano or electric piano chords ?
I'd like to know if the result is the same than the original chord !
Gonna try the demo... I hope it supports polyphony.

If anyone of midi guitar owner could make some chord test on other stuff than guitar..... It would be nice !

Re: BOSS SY 300 Guitar Synthesizer
The original GR300 hardsync'd saw oscillators to each incoming string. Then auto compensated the gain to get a more full wave oscillator running. It also had the overall signal level envelope available for use, so you can transform to synth per string without delay, hen add the volume control of each string back in. Not.polyphonic, but works like a charm.
Changing from saw to other waves is possible, but not with accurate duty cycle. But lots of adaptive filtering helps.

The SY 300 is near by the old GR 300.
