And of course we have BCModular and ScopeSync too...

Ableton are deadly - always one-step-ahead of Bitwig's upcoming features... They beat them to the chase in many respects - some of the features that Bitwig liked to advertise in their feature set that distinguished them from Ableton Live, Ableton have since implemented themselves...

Still tho, as a commited Ableton fanboy, it's only to my benefit! Bitwig comes up with the ideas, Ableton implements (some of) them

The best decision Ableton ever made tho was MaxForLive - exposing an API of their LiveObjectModel to Max and implementing the hooks for the Max Runtime to be embedded in a Live Set - allows them farm out new feature ideas to third-parties, making for a more community-oriented approach to implementing desirable new features.

Obviously, Bitwig has it's benefits over Ableton in many respects... But, while Ableton implements features 'unique to Bitwig', there's less of a driver to make the DAW jump from Ableton to Bitwig.

I'll be interested to read how folk are getting on with this new kid on the modular block in the next while...

You guys remind me some of my friends. Their setup include thousands of vsts and gear.
You scroll down infinite menus of nonsense names and "user catchy" names (including Maserati, Ferrari,
phantom the audio punisher, and similar nonsense ) just to activate a silly filter.
When you finally select the damn filter what follows:
the registration windows because " well i have forgotten that stuff is not working" or some other response

Tens broken external hardware each one with undiscovered malfunctions (who knows that stuff) waiting to be connected again through interfaces than no one knows how to operate so to decide that they just don't work.

Their is a common response for everything not working: The computer needs more memory.

Results: No brain cycles left, no music composed, no audio engineering knowledge gathered.

For me there is just one rule: be quick or be dead...

Don't want to get me wrong. I didn't replied specifically t you and i' m sorry if you have bad memories
from previous discussions.

Look i' m a developer i 'm happy that people are interested about new devices.

But at the same time i just advice people to stay away from the hype around new devices and instead focus
at the essence of audio design. (getting to know their equipment). I think that is right.

I don;t have a problem people use their maserati plugins. But as i remember when waves introduced that plug in,
i decided to simply delete and never install waves again.

As for you, you mention 4 different modular synthesizers in your response and still questioning
if you can connect these together...
What to say? Of course you can!

Also you can gather 100 people, connect your machines via the internet and connect 100 daws and modular by side.

And make the first modular orchestra in human history. Imagine a feedback path between 100 different modules spread across 4 continents, the resulting sound would certainly be astonishing!
The signal path may become so complicated that by accident may give rise to the first unique ai which inevitably would respond in a friendly way: "what the hell are you doing?"

MAX/MSP is modular in code.

Like the Modular IV is, under the hood.
I think it is good this interest in modular synthesis.
It all came from there.
There is the free BEAP modular software for MAX/MSP too.

I am just back from Stockholm.
I went all the way there to work with their Buchla 200.
A piece that fits a museum. Why? Because modular has my interest.
That beast was made to work with the 1st MAX(Mathews).
The 2nd, MSP, is named after Miller Puckette

Of course using several similar equipment is educating because you spot the similarities and the differences between them.

That knowledge can easily help you to decide what to keep and what to delete...

As for the Buchla it costs around 20000$ the oscillator... The sound of it costs around 50 bucks...
