Which HP XW6*** computer to buy for 3 cards + Scope 5.1
Morning,
I've jumped on the NSA deal and am wondering whether I should just install it on my old P4 box with XP32 on or get a XW6*** box with Windows 7 32bit?
Are all the HP XW6 models OK with Scope, the ones with 4 PCI slots?

Thank you, jhulk.
Do you have XP or Windows 7 on yours? Scope 5
32 or 64 bit?

Re: Which HP XW6*** computer to buy for 3 cards + Scope 5.1
i've been using the xw4400...
Re: Which HP XW6*** computer to buy for 3 cards + Scope 5.1
i use the xp 32bit
hate windows7
and 64bit is just a waist of time unless you are using kontakt with massive gb sample libraries
as samplers dont work at all
and the new sharc multisample modules dont work
and they are great and they work perfect on my system
even better than the xite1 with 64bit with modular as you can use all modules with out problem
as jimmy can prove this as i did some devs with multisamples and jimmy kept getting out of connections and other problems and could not play them on his xite1 64bit
even though i could get 12+ poly on the 32bit system with my pci cards

Re: Which HP XW6*** computer to buy for 3 cards + Scope 5.1
Hi,
can anybody tell me, how noisy the XW6000 machines (with dual CPU) are? They seem to be the best choice for the upgrade my old Pulsar1 computer (replacing a P4). As the machine is located under the desk I wonder if I would have to install a silent rack, too. My old P4 was definitiv to loud.
I know, noise is hard to characterize, but maybe anyone can help. It would also be helpful to know, if the fans slow down, when not needed, or if any noise-maintenace can be done (different cooler, etc). I was not able to finde information about that in the www.
Thanks, Gunnar

Re: Which HP XW6*** computer to buy for 3 cards + Scope 5.1
if you fit noise foam on the inside and silicon washers on all things that vibrate
put noise foam block under the comp so that no distribution of sound to vibrate
and they are quiet on my 2 i have zalman flowers cooler heatsinks with triple 120mm silent fans i have 2 fans over the flower coolers
and 1 fan over the scope pci cards
very quiet machine

Not any trouble, such as PCI overload or any thing else .? i'm looking for stability now ... so if i need to buy new old computer ... i need it stable !

Creamware Scope 5.1 (Scope Power Pulsar 1.01|3 x Pulsar II|Pulsar I|Syncplate), scope abuser since 2004.
Asus Z87-K C2|Intel Haswell Core i7-4770|Kingston KHX1600C9D3K2/8GX - 2 x 4 Gb Ram (1600 MHz)

Re: Which HP XW6*** computer to buy for 3 cards + Scope 5.1
well on my both systems they are stable on win xp 32
run loads of sts sample osc in bc modular
and can do lots of big modular synths with 10-16 poly with no problem on a 4gb machine
with 4 voice architecture for a single poly voice
many vca and 4 env for pitch 4 nv for filter and 4 env for vca and 4 vca for vector mixing with no problems with my 36 or 27 dsp system with 10-16 poly

HP Workstation xw6200 seems to be the last system workstation with 4 legacy PCI slot.

Re: Which HP XW6*** computer to buy for 3 cards + Scope 5.1
I bought a used xw8400 for a Pulsar I and everything worked first shot. Even my N/I Guitar program started working on the xw8400. Plus there are some quad-core CPUs that can live happily on that mobo.
xw8400
2.33 GHz Xeon Quad core (E5345 Socket 771) x2
32Gb ECC buffered memory
AMD HD7700
Samsung 850 EVO 250Gb root drive
Windows 7 Pro (64bit)
Sonar Platinum
XITE-1 (flipping awesome!)

How would a Dell 690 work for 2x pulsar 2 and 1 luna 2 compared to a xw8400?

Re: Which HP XW6*** computer to buy for 3 cards + Scope 5.1
btw, does scope v5 support the use of 2 physical cpu's? I'm considering 2x x5355 on a dell 690.
How does it work with 2 cpu's? will i benefit cause i will be using lots of vst's to.

Re: Which HP XW6*** computer to buy for 3 cards + Scope 5.1
never used one so cant comment
dual cpu or quad core cpu is fine its hyper threading thats a problem and should be turned of i have dual xeons in both of my systems 1 is the xw6000
and the other is xw6200 both work great both are cheap the xw6000 cost me £70 the xw6200 cost me £89
so it was a no brainer for my scope cards but the new mother board that dawman recomended looks very good with 5 32bit pci slots and can have the latest xeon i3/i5 processors

Re: Which HP XW6*** computer to buy for 3 cards + Scope 5.1
the question is, is it stable en does it perform well.. I looked for a used old xw8400/del690 but performance wise it not that much better than i have now. The x5355 isn't much better than the q6600.. i need the cpu performance boost for vst's. Onboard gpu on the cpu would be nice to have, that frees up a pcié slot.
Re: Which HP XW6*** computer to buy for 3 cards + Scope 5.1
my scope systems are seperate from my daw which is a quad i7
i use my scope systems like hardware modules and mixing modules via audio and midi via the adat pipes direct from my daw
all my vsti are done on the daw system

Re: Which HP XW6*** computer to buy for 3 cards + Scope 5.1
So basically, how would that work in practice? all of you're creamware dsp's in on pc, and the other daw has it's own interface?
Re: Which HP XW6*** computer to buy for 3 cards + Scope 5.1
yes
i have several setups
a atari 1040ste for midi using cubase 3 midi clock out to my daw
my scope outputs go to a yamaha o2r via adat
my audio daw system ambletonlive9 suite/reason7 nuendo + vsti goes out of adat ports into my mixer scope system using modular and scope fx this system is really just used as an audio tape deck hard disk recorder loop trigger player and has the most memory and fastest processor
and tgstgs analyzer
my other scope system runs synths and modular as a sound module unit and mach5 version 3 all triggered by the atari solid midi timing and sdk visual studio c++ matlab and various tools notepad c++
the reason for so many systems is that as i have been collecting gear i have been incorporating them into my system
i like the scope system very much and have a set of boards and another xw6200 comp for fitting them in which i used the latest nsa offer for
and that will be used as another module of scope synths and modular it means i can have more instances of the same synth for massive scapes by layering them
it works is a big cluttered setup but it works for me
i also have a macIIci with soundtools2 card pre protools thats set up on my EII always using sounddesigner2
my hardware synths go via an analog desk and outboard gear preamps and tube comps and eq
and some great diy pro audio gear heres one im working on at the moment redd47 tube pre redd47+rs127 pop eq and redd47 tube make upstage with tube psu
my daw system is used for sampling also of my synths and for creating sample content for hardware synths and samplers with pcm loading via my apogee adc
