WINDOWS 7 CUBASE 6 pops and glitches

Post by korgano »

Hi everybody,

what I need to set up on Windows or elsewhere to get rid of pops and glitches?
I have also from time to time that ASIO overload in cubase..it goes peak altough is on 20%.
I am recording at 48khz 24bit. But it does it on 44,1khz 24 bit.

We are living in 21st century and it is not possible to install Windows 7 ( original ) and Cubase 6( original ) and SCOPE 5.0 ( original ) and record without plops and glitches.

I had same Cubase 6( original ) and SCOPE 5.0 ( original ) installed on same PC with WIndows XP and it worked fine. Of course after planty tweakings.

Cheers !

PleaSe don't post the same message multiple times :)
Is your card sharing any irq's with anything? Disable all things you don't need..
What is your setup, computer specs etc.?

Thanks for answering the19thbear.

well message is not same..ok maybe, but meaning is diffrent.
My post in Tips and Tricks is just a tought.

My post in Problem solving is cry for help :-)

as you can see in my post:

>>I had same Cubase 6( original ) and SCOPE 5.0 ( original ) installed on same PC with WIndows XP and it worked fine. Of course after planty tweakings.<<

that means if IRQ is working fine with XP it should be good with WIN 7 too.
I would also say then that setup of my computer is not a problem because is working fine with XP.
It has to do something with WIN 7 or Cubase setup.

Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor Q6600
2gb RAM
Radeon HD 2900

thanks for any help!!!

no, neither is true. there is little or no correlation between win xp and win7.

you need to check for shared irqs again. you need to turn off cpu power stepping, if it's an option. you need to be sure that all of the plugins that you are using are 64bit compatible also, if you're now on 64bit.

Thanks Gary that u r always here for us.

here is screen shot of both of my WIN XP and WIN 7 IRQs.

I know they should not share IRQs but the WIN XP is working fine( rightside screen shot) and WIN 7 not.

in Ressources from Sonic Core Scope I can not change IRQ....I cant acces "Automatic Config".
When I change IRQ in BIOS it always look the same as on the Screen shot, IRQ stays on 18 and 19.

it's unfortunate that so many usb controllers are sharing an irq with the cards. that motherboard's architecture is certainly less than optimal for Scope cards. possibly there is a later bios that will improve the situation. otherwise, i don't think it will work without disabling those usb controllers....

Thanks Gary,

but why does it work with Win XP?

I realy did not have any problems with XP and I would keep it, but since I bought new Cubase 6 which is working only with Windows 7 I had to switch to Windows 7.
You can see on screen shot that is almost same situations with IRQs in XP as in WIN 7.

windows xp and windows 7 use resources very differently. if they didn't v4 would work 100% in win7.

actually, it SHOULDN'T have worked with xp, but the way you use the cards may have been in your favor.

you should also go into the bios and do the i7 bios tweaks, or at least the one's that are available. power stepping is controlled by the os, so where power stepping(which DOES exist in the quadcore core2 processors) may be relatively benign in xp, it's really bad in win7. power stepping is a feature that basically has the cpu mostly disabled and powered down to save energy. when a process requires more power, the cpu is ramped up to do the job required. for realtime audio, this will make trouble because realtime audio can't wait for the cpu to turn on.

Thaks Gary,

I have swap places of cards in PCI slots and I have now at least Scope card on only one IRQ, but the other one is sharing other devices.
If it only would be posibble to change the IRQ, but it doesent work neither in WIN 7 or in BIOS.

Power stepping could be issue here, because I have watched in Task manger Cubase procesor usage and it goes from 1 to 60 % ..kind of in waves( always up and down during the playback ).

Where can I do that about Power stepping?

two places,

one is the bios. you need to find all of those i7 tweaks that you saw on the C|C site. some may not be available in your bios and some may have slightly different names. the other place is in the control panel's power options. go into advanced options and be sure that the cpu is always on.

also, you can disable any usb controllers that share irqs with the one card that has sharing with the Scope card. do this in the device manager.

I have found some of those Sonic Core tweaks in my BIOS and did test with 44,1kHz.
WORKS FINE ! Thanks

I did not yet disable usb controllers. I hope it will work with 48 kHz too :-)

Thanks for help Gary!
