Win7 tweak helper for a better Scope usage?

Post by ChrisWerner »

On surfing to find a help changing IRQs in win7, I came over this FREEWARE tool.
It gives you access to CPU, RAM and many other important arrays to prepare your Win7 system for Scope. Haven't tried it yet, though.

As far as I read through the help file it can't change IRQs, but I think it can be a good all in one helper for all the other tweaks you probably have to do.

cheers

Thank you, Chris. It helps, I got a little bit of a performance boost by doing a few tweaks. One important thing was to disable window transparency, which caused a lot of crackles in the audio. This way, I can still have Aero functions, without disrupting audio work (I know, but I really like the "eye candy" in W7...)

There's one thing, maybe someone here can help me: when a plugin window is open, and I press the left mouse button on it for a little bit of time (say, for example, to move a knob), Windows hides this window under the DAW's window, which is not the most wanted behaviour. Is it possible to disable that?

@Streber: On the main page, on the left press "Customization Tweaks". Then, on the right, choose "Windows Aero Tweaks". Check "Disable Aero Glass Transparency" and "Disable Aero Blur effect".

@Gary: I remember I was able to do that in Cubase, but there's no such option in Live, which is what I use the most. However, checking "Disable Aero Snap" on the same page as the above does do the trick!

Another thing is that Scope doesn't open on startup, as it did on XP. It has Administrator previleges, and it is on the Startup folder, so I guess it must be a UAC thing... No biggie...

Yes this was a useful set of tools.
I already had the infamous GaryB tweaks applied, but one trick that I could actually see a marked improvement was to load the Windows Kernel into RAM.
I have 12GB's now and barely use more than 8GB's because of the NCW based samples I use for LASS Strings, so I figured I would have the Kernel stored in RAM instead of accessing the drive where the OS resides.
Excellent.
Much quicker response times.

Also noticed I could raise the DRAM voltage from 1.5v to 1.57v and the hardware monitoring utility I use showed no increase in tempurature, before I couldn't use voltages on anything over 1.5 or I would lose access to the 3rd RAM Channel and Windows would only see 4GB's.
This was due to the memory tweaks.

A very handy app...thanks CW.
It's nice having you back again.

Another small thing I noticed is on my SATA RAID Cage there are 4 x HDD activity lights and then the 4U chassis has a sytem light and they were always showing the system LED and C Drive LED blinking rapidly even when nothing was loaded...?
This was something I never noticed in XP 32bit and I hate little things like this as they seem to use resources for no apparent reaosn.
After doing the HDD tricks offered, I noticed this unexplainable HDD LED and sytem activity has disappeared.
I like this even more now....

Err, no, that doesn't do it, it came back to the same. However, I know now how to solve this:

Ableton Live is not compatible with Windows 7. It must be run in "Vista SP2" compatibility mode.

When you do this, Live will ask for re-authorization, so be prepared.

strange how it seems to have gone from everywhere, probably means they have a pay version now.

I have 1.0 in my dropbox though.

I read the rumor that he wanted to sell all his codes, so maybe he did and isn't allowed to offer Mz7 anymore.
I have 1.1 here, pm me your e-mail and I will sent it to you, aprox.2mb.

cheers
