oil above 90$ / barrel!

Post by Cochise »

Automotive gasoline here reached 1.5 euros/liter (it should be something like 7.57$/gallon)
... moving by car is becoming kind of luxury.

If oil is so expensive, then why...
can you book a citytrip to Istanbul for 150eu,
do we fly shrimps to Africa just to have 'em peeled then fly them back,
does our local herbs freezing co truck the herbs to Poland just to have them washed?
more has been done with less

it's not expensive and there's tons and tons of it. it is cheap and easy energy, but it would be better if we were given something cleaner to work with. that said, if the markets were honest, gasoline would still be cheap. most of what we pay are taxes.

Sure, most of it are taxes. A car needs roads to drive on.
Aviation otoh, is exempt from tax ;)

yeah, roads, very hard to build and pay for it seems. so many different taxes for roads, so little money actually spent in comparison to the amount supposedly raised, and of course, you're correct. there's no tax on aviation fuels.  oh yeah, and according to the folks trying to explain the so-called twin towers demise, jet fuel is unbelievable hot burning and ultra explosive, unlike the kerosene that it's made of. oh yeah, and diesel fuel isn't priced higher than gasoline even though it's made from the less refined, cheaper kerosene as well.

City traffic here is at the paradox. Distances are not long, and in the rush hours it could be faster to reach the town center by feet than by car, considering travel and parking; and weather isn't very bad even in winter.
Now maybe I could sell my VW Lupo and buy an Xite.
It was bought brand new in 2002, though; not sure I would make enough money with the trade.

Diesel fuel isn't priced higher than gasoline here. It's cost is rising in the years though, and now it almost reached gasoline.
...It's kind of a pollution tax, I think...

:D But I doubt, that the barrel will get much cheaper pretty soon...Too many people are trying to get their xmas gratification or their gifts, independent of the price they and others will sooner or later have to pay for.

Here gasoline price is very fast to follow the barrel price rise.
It's absolutely not so fast to follow barrel price reduction; even the ratio oil/fuel price often is wrong when it comes reduction.

Yeah, unfortunately the rise bring gain enough to overbalance those that gonna save.
(sorry, can't find a way to better say this in English at now)
