i using apogee mini-me for 6 years. the compressor has limited options. my question is can i use a mic preamp/compressor before mini? (i want to use only the converter)

Still, turning the input levels down past the internal switch, the pre-amp will be bypassed and the inputs will serve as line inputs. That's in case you just want to feed it line-level gear. Also, a screw allows adjustment of the input line level.
