Sort of curious about something.
Does it matter what device is plugged into what SATA port on the MOBO? Is there a protocol of sorts? What I'm wondering is, does it matter that drive 1 is plugged into SATA channel 0, CD burner into SATA channel 1 and my second HD into SATA channel 2? I was kinda wondering if my two hard drives should be on ch 0 & 1 and the burner on Ch 2. Or maybe it doesn't matter at all?
SATA connections on my MOBO
Re: SATA connections on my MOBO
afaik it doesn't matter, unless certain sata connectors are hooked to different chips on your board.
there are some that have plain sata ports and so called raid ports hooked to a promise chip or whatever. sometimes you can even disable the raid functionality (when it's done by intel ICHxR).
if there are different colors used for the connectors it's likely that the board has a raid option. you should therefor consult your manual.
after all, even if it's all plain sata, I like to have a certain order for hooking devices myself. so I still start with disk0 on port0 etc, but I use one of the upper ports for the optical drive, to avoid too much connector density

I'm sorry, but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Re: SATA connections on my MOBO
the c drive usually goes to port 0, but the bios usually has a stting for which port the boot(c) drive is on...

Gary is correct..and the system will boot a second faster with the boot drive on SATA port 0

Thanks for the responses. My main boot drive is connected to channel 0. I instinctively knew that was the correct thing to do. I'm not having a problem with the way things are - I was just curious.
